Gov. and Mrs. Steve Beshear invite all Kentuckians and their guests to visit the Capitol on May 3, 2008, for the annual Governor's Derby Breakfast. The traditional celebration has been hosted by Kentucky governors for more than 30 years.

"Derby Day provides an excellent opportunity to showcase the beauty of Kentucky and its heritage," Gov. Beshear said. "Jane and I are so pleased to invite everyone to come share this time-honored Frankfort Derby tradition."

Corps of Engineers at GRL offers water safety contest for kids

Kids are asked to name the new inflatable water safety display

The Corps of Engineers at Green River Lake has a new water safety display that is over 18 feet tall and is meant to attract your attention, as well as make you and all our visitors to the lake "think" about water safety. We are having this contest for you to come up with a name for this display. The name you choose should raise water safety awareness.

Free teacher training on subject of Holocaust offered at CU

The School of Education at Campbellsville University is offering free teacher training Saturday, May 3, 2008, at Hawkins Athletic Center, 7:00amCT/8:00amET to 2:30amCT/3:30pmET on the subject of "Teaching the Holocaust in Kentucky's Schools."

The fee-free program, limited to 100 participants, is designed specifically for Kentucky's public middle school and high school teachers and is meant to enable them to gain awareness about teaching on the subject of the Holocaust. CU students and faculty also will have an opportunity to attend.

LWC Humanity Hands conducting roadblock

LWC Humanity Hands will be conducting a Roadblock today, Friday, April 25, 2008, and Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Wal-Mart intersection.

All donations will help the organization travel to various Habitat for Humanity sites and several community events to provide much needed community service to Adair and surrounding counties.

Westlake Regional Hospital newest major ACRC recycler

Fiscal Court opts for completely paid health policy

Rates for new policy are down. County pays less per person insured, but overall cost likely to rise by $110,000 annually, because of projected higher participation, Judge Ann Melton says. Participating employees will pay $224.93 less per month than they did last year.

The Adair County Fiscal Court voted unanimously last night, April 24, 2008, to buy a health insurance policy which will be completely paid for by the Court. The new plan will take effect May 1, 2008.

Reed Brothers Insurance Group of Columbia. offering a United Health Care/KACO plan, won the bidding. Reed Bros. was represented by Kelly Harding of KACO, The plan offers a $297.28 monthly individual premium, with options for adding spouses and family members. The entire premium will be paid for by the County.

    In what was one of the most important days in the college's 105-year history, the Lindsey Wilson College Board of Trustees on Thursday unanimously approved a $12 million expansion plan.

    The $12 million plan, which is the first phase of a larger expansion for the college, calls for building of a health and wellness center, an addition to the Sumner Campus Ministry Center, an exterior renovation to the Lindsey Wilson Scottsville Campus, and a new baseball-softball complex.

    LWC dedicates Sue Stivers Alumni House

    Sue Stivers actually designed and lived in the house on Myrtle Street now named in her honor

    Lindsey Wilson College re-named its advancement building in honor of "one of Columbia and Adair County's finest" citizens on Thursday morning.

    More than 100 area residents and college officials gathered in front of the house on Myrtle Street to dedicate the Sue Cravens Stivers Alumni House. The building was named in honor of longtime Lindsey Wilson trustee Sue Stivers of Columbia.

    "You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who loves the college any more than Sue Stivers," Lindsey Wilson President William T. Luckey Jr., said "She is one of Columbia and Adair County's finest."

    LWC Humanity Hands conducting roadblock
    LWC Humanity Hands will be conducting a roadblock today, Friday, April 25, 2008, and Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Wal-Mart intersection. All donations will help the organization travel to various Habitat for Humanity sites and several community events to provide much needed community service to Adair and surrounding counties.
