Good building weather helping at Super Wal Mart

2008-04-21 - Holladay Place, KY 61, Columbia, KY - Photo By Ed Waggener.
"YOU'RE LOOKING AT THE CORE of "NEW COLUMBIA," as Holladay Place developers are fond of calling the mammoth new shopping center. The anchor store, the 156,000 s.f. Super Wal-Mart store is scheduled to be turned over to Wal-Mart around the third week of September, just five months away from the day this picture was taken. The building is already under roof, and skilled construction crews are working on almost every aspect of the building. A 22,000 strip center should be started soon, and a 156 seat restaurant is expected to be open before Wal-Mart is complete. In the foreground, Ken Adams is operating a big trackhoe for Pyles Excavating Co. whose headquarters building is already operational on the north side of the development. Good news! Tiny Ruby Ann is doing fine!

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

Many of your readers have no doubt been wondering what is happening with the little tiny baby girl who was born on February 9th at 1 pound, 3 ounces. Well, wonder no longer.

As of this day, she weighs in at a whopping 3 pounds, 15 ounces, and is over 15 inches long. That's a big change from 10 inches. Today, she was moved to an open crib, out of her isolet. She is maintaining her temperature, breathing well and processing her formula.

This week she will get to try nursing from a bottle for the first time in stead of receiving formula from a tube down her throat.

Those of you who are so inclined, continue to pray for her growth and development.

s/Grandpa Charles (and Grandma Phyllis) Miller

Religous freedoms subject of KHIPP roundtable discussion

Positions at KHIPP forum
"We don't need a religious state to reflect morality" -HOLLY HOLLMAN
vs.
As a Baptist, I believe in the separation of church and state, but . . . -RICHARD LAND

By Linda Waggener, assistant director of CU university communications

Nationally prominent speakers Holly Hollman, general counsel of the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty, and Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission, were recent guests at Campbellsville University's Kentucky Heartland Institute on Public Policy (KHIPP) roundtable.

They brought light to the issues of church and state and religious liberty, agreeing that it is fine for candidates to talk of religion because it helps voters know their nature and style of leadership; but that is where the mix of religion and politics should end.

Another much smaller quake in same area again this morning

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I have a plug-in for my web browser that alerts me of any earthquakes around the world. And evidently, at 12:38amCT, this morning, there was another 4.2 earthquake in the same area as the one that happened last week.To go to the link, Click Here

.While I'm not a geologist, by any means, I personally find this a bit disturbing. It could be just a aftershock from the previous occurrence, this also could be a precursor to a much larger event taking place in the near future. I just really get a eerie feeling in regards to the amount of events taking place in our region. Anyway, I just wanted to pass this along.

GIGO: 2008-04-18 Recycle old cell phones

By Barbara Armitage

Don't just toss that old cell phone, recycle it.

I think I might have been the last holdout on the planet and I caved this month. One of my daughters thought that it was just absurd that her Dad and I didn't txt OMG! Translation for those of us over 30: We did not communicate by typing a coded message on to a tiny screen by the use of even tinier keys that require a specific pattern of depressions to produce the desired result..

Our generation did have a similar form of communication some time ago. We called it letter writing. It was replaced by an invention called the telephone where by a person could actually speak directly to another person.
