You know some people will do anything to see their Mom and Dad. I guess I'm no different. I fell down the steps on my back porch Thursday night and broke my left foot and possibly broke the right one.

Flowers: Do you know what these blossoms on Bull Run RD are?

2008-04-19 - District 7, Adair County, KY - Photo Armitage photo.
CONSIDERED ONE OF THE SWEETEST SMELLING BLOSSOMS in the world these flowers are found on one of the rare plants that bloom and bear fruit at the same time. Songs have been written about them, honey and perfume made from their nectar. Brides consider them the perfect wedding flower. They're orange blossoms and they're blooming at Tucker's Station Farms. The 8 foot Valencia Orange tree is a prize possession of Barbara Armitage. Two years ago, she brought this and several other citrus trees with her from Florida, where she grew. "Every spring they fill my house with their wonderful scent and then once again in the fall they bloom making my porch smell like my childhood," she said.Clicking Read More accesses the "Today, Sunday, April 20, 2008" feature

Adair County Garden Club cleans Greenhills RD

By Barbara Armitage

You know the old joke about the man who went to the doctor and said "Doc it hurts when I do this" and the doctor replied, "Well just don't do that". This really applies to littering. Throwing trash on Kentucky's roadsides hurts us all so "just don't do that."

The Adair County Garden Club talks the talk about keeping the earth clean and we walk the walk. Members Barbara Armitage, Mimi Bairstow, Johnnie Biggs, Nancy Cozby, Sharon Gray, Vonnie Kolbenschlag, Lucille Lemmon, Mary Sharp, Jennifer Smith, Dora Mae Stone, Ginger Swift, cleaned Greenhills Road on Saturday morning, April 19, 2008 picking up 19 bags of trash and we aren't finished yet. We are committed to keeping Adair County clean.

Remembering Bert Stotts: He was wonderful carver

To ColumbiaMagazine.com:

I was greatly saddened this morning when I saw the obituary for Bert Stotts.

As a child growing up at my father's store in Sparksville, Mr. Bert was a daily visitor and one of my Dad's favorite checker playing friends. Ironically, his passing was on what would have been my Dad's 86th birthday.

Mr. Bert not only was a great checker player, but he was also wonderful at carving miniature tools.

Thinks no significance to the italicized N in AMANDAVILLE

About Photo of Amandaville Christian Church sign

We've gotten this letter about the italicized "N" in the sign on the Amandaville Christian Church: "I grew up in the Amandaville community and attended church at the Amandaville Christian Church as I grew up. My parents and grandparents, and other relatives, were long-term members," Rev. John Chowning wrote. "I don't think there's particular significance to the italicized 'N' other than it was made that way. There may be a particular story, but I don't recall it. Those letters have been there a long time"Sounds like the right answer, but another person wrote an opinion that the letter looks like a "Z" on its side.
