With one photo

By Ed Waggener

Apparently, several Adair Countians were affected by the storm in Atlanta on Friday.. Among reports which are coming in are the following:First, there was this letter.
To Ed, ColumbiaMagazine.com

I thought your magazine might be interested in the following: Go to www.ajc.comThis is the web site for the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Type in Mike Curry in the archive search and you will be taken to an article that appeared in this newspaper on Saturday.

Regards,

Leon
Contact information on file
The story in The Constitution tells about Columbian Mike Curry's experience in the tornado at the SEC tournament. With the Columbia connection, it is a very interesting read.

Secondly, we've received a photo of the home of Jon and Sara Michelotto, who live in downtown Atlanta. A huge tree in their yard was toppled and damaged one set of front stairs of their house. Sara Michelotto is the daughter of Debra and Tom Wimmer of Columbia, KY.
We understand other Adair Countians were there as well. We'd love to hear their stories, too. - EW

TERRY PELLY, of Knifley is a regular at Arnold's Landing on Green River Lake. He's in the foreground above. As many as two dozen people at a time were fishing, catching a fair number of mostly white bass and crappie. "We're just five minutes away," Pelly said, "We get down here a lot." With him were his wife, Kathy, and son Ethan.

Feedback: Reader has idea on location of old G.H. Nell home

To ColumbiaMagazine.com

My husband thinks it is the old Dr. Nell homplace that Slaught (sp??) Coomer owned and where he lived when he was a child. It was at Gradyville, if it is the Dr. Nell farm. He believes it to still be standing. At the time, my husband's family lived on a tenant farm nearby.

s/Judy Corbin
Click Here to see an old photo of the house, with a story about the Gradyville Flood by Geniece Marcum. The style of the house, with it's gingerbread trim, is akin to the Flowers-Moss (corrected from Rollin Keltner) house, now the home of Mary Keltner, in Gradyville.-ED

GIGO Diary, for 2008-03-15: What to compost

Barbara Armitage has explained in the past few articles how to recycle. Today, she starts a list of what to recycle. And confesses she was once disobedient to subdivision restrictions and never got caught, even though they should have noticed she had the prettiest flowers on the block.

By Barbara Armitage

GIGO Diary of a Recycler: Everyday we are going to follow my garbage to see just how close I can come to eliminating my contribution the landfills in America Today is Saturday, March 15, 2008. Posted 2008-03-16

I am hoping that at least a few of you went out this morning in search of fencing to make your compost pile. Mother Nature even cooperated this afternoon giving us a few hours of sunshine to complete your project.

Right about now you may be beginning to wonder if this was such a good idea after all. Many people tell me that they don't understand how I can have a garbage dump in my back yard.

Tom Chaney reviews God's Problem; March 16, 2008

Of Writers and Their Books (151): Review,God's Problem:How the Bible Fails to Answer Our Most Important Question -- Why We Suffer. William J. Coughlin [Harper, 2008]

Just Live With It

A great many reasons caused me to be selling books in 2008 and not beating the drum ecclesiastic in some Baptist pulpit. One of those reasons is typified by a play I saw in 1959 in New York City.

Christopher Plummer was playing J.B. in Archibald MacLeish's play of the same name. The title character is based on the biblical Job in the book by that name. Four of us had set out for Canada and New York after a summer working in the Everyman Players production of "The Book of Job" in Pineville [Kentucky].

  • Freecycling (recycling)

This is a recycled news story we first ran on August 12, 2007. With the recycling fervor running at a white-hot level, the article is re-run to to get more people to use Freecycling to reduce the amount of wasted going to the landfill. Recycle by giving away useful items. FREE: Freecycling; and yes, ColumbiaMagazine.comwill help. Freecycling ads will go in classifieds in "Miscellaneous" for now. When it catches on, we'll make a Freecycling: Free to a Good Home, classification, as suggested -Ed

Besides being that crazy old lady in the garden who has too many animals, I am also an avid recycler.

I have a firm belief in two things : 1. Everything must be used at least twice and, 2. If it's not useful or beautiful get rid of it.
