Green River Animal Shelter report to AC Fiscal Court Feb. 2008

February 2008 statistics reported to Adair Fiscal Court

Aided by heavy rescues, the Green River Animal Shelter was able to keep euthanizations in February 2008 below 50%. Still 86 animals were put to sleep, accounting for 46% of the total leaving the shelter in the month:

LWC's Moore, Cain earn Mid-South Conference honors

SPORTS: Softball

COLUMBIA, KY - Lindsey Wilson College seniors Shayla Cain and Leigh Ann Moore earned Mid-South Conference softball honors for their play during the week ending March 9, 2008.

Cain, a Reno, Nevada native, was named Mid-South Conference Player of the Week. She hit .400 (2 for 5) with two home runs and five RBIs, including the game-winner in the Blue Raiders 4-3 win over Midway (KY) College. She ended the week with a 1.600 slugging percentage.

There will be a Tri-County (Adair, Green, Taylor) Equine Educational Meeting on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 6:00pmCT/7:00pmET at the Green County Extension Office. Dr. Bob Coleman, U.K. Equine Specialist, will be the guest speaker. Adair County IV, Class of 2008, surprised Board Member and Adair County Public Library Director, Lee Ann Jessee, with a ticket to attend the lecture and dinner afterward in the Bomhard Theateer located in the Kentucky Center for the Arts in Louisville, with Greg Mortenson, co-author of the book that depicts a portion of his life's work, Three Cups of Tea; One Man's Mission to Promote Peace, One School at a Time.

The presentation was made Thursday, March 6, 2008.

GIGO Diary, for 2008-03-10: Spread the word on recycling

At least one person at every meeting should be in charge of recycling. A note, again, on styrofoam vs. paper: Paper is recyclable, styrofoam is not. Today's diary a victory: Only two tiny items went to landfill

    The latest American Red Cross Emergency Response Lifesaving Training will be offered at the Knifley Area Volunteer Fire Department on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 and end on April 28, 2008.     ACT March 11, 2008 for ACHS Juniors
    Adair County High School juniors will be taking the act on March 11, 2008. It is very important that all juniors are in attendance and on time for the testing date. Students will be testing in four different areas: Reading, English, Math & Science. This is a norm based test that has been given for many years in the United States as a college entrance exam. The State of Kentucky now requires that all students in the 11th grade take the test. It counts as 2.5 % of the CATS scores. High schools feel that this is an opportunity for all students to take the test. The high school will be providing in-class preparation prior to the test.
