Obituary: Cindy P.. Rowe, 56

Mrs. Rowe was a member of Russell Heights Baptist Church and was retired from Fruit of the Loom. She was a member of a large, beloved Adair County family, whose life and end of life struggles inspired thousands of Adair Countians.

Memorial Service for Rayburn Daugherty will be April 26, 2008

He was one of Adair County's great athletes. A memorial service will be held in Florida, February 16, and at Lindsey Wilson College, Columbia, KY, at 1:00pm, Saturday, April 26, 2008

Lindsay Rayburn Daugherty, a warmly remembered Adair County High School and Lindsey Wilson athlete, and former Adair County coach, died Sunday, February 3, 2008, at the Villages Hospice House in the Villages, Florida.

His death came just five months after he had completed a trip to Columbia in September 2007, for one last visit with his old teammates and friends.

KSP investigating burglary at Grider Drug, Russell Springs

POLICE REPORTS

Kentucky State Police are asking for information about a burglary at Grider Drug Store on Main Street in Russell Springs, KY.

The KSP was notified of a burglar alarm at the store at 3:30amCT, Wednesday, February 6, 2008. When officers arrived they found that someone had entered through the front door.

For Lindsey Wilson College sophomore Amanda Johnson, race walking has been a way for her to bond with her father, Douglas.

And last weekend, father and daughter realized a lifetime dream when they competed in the legendary Millrose Games, held at New York's Madison Square Garden.

LWC to offer free tax service to area residents

Lindsey Wilson College accounting students will make the tax season a little stressful for low-income, moderate-income and elderly taxpayers by offering free tax-preparation assistance.

Under the direction of Associate Professor of Accounting Gary Lee Gibson, five Lindsey Wilson accounting students will offer the free service from 6-9 pnCT every Wednesday through April 9. The service will not be offered on March 19, which is during the college's spring break.

Fundraiser Feb. 16, 2008 for Columbia Christian Elementary

EVENTS

At 6:30pmCT, Saturday night, February 16, 2008, at the Christian Life Center there will be a fundraiser event for the Columbia Christian Elementary School. Admission is $5.00 per person/$2.50 for children 6 and under. There will be all kinds of food booths: Italian, Mexican, American, choose whatever you like. There will be games for the children and volleyball and basketball for everyone. There will also be an auction that will give you the chance to bid on various items donated by local business and supporters of the school. Columbia Police ask citizen help on pharmacy burglaries

The Columbia Police Department is currently investigating a seriesof pharmacy burglaries. Last night, February 6, 2008, at 12:30 police respondedto an alarm at The Medicine Shoppe on Jamestown ST, and found the front doorglass busted out. Entry was gained but nothing taken.

On Monday Morning at 4:30am Police responded to an alarm callat Nations Medicine and found a door glass busted out. No items weretaken, according to Columbia Police Chief Mark Harris.

Storm Feb. 6, 2008: No school in Adair Co. School District today:

Several photos accompany this article

There will be no school in Adair County Schools today, Wednesday, February 6, 2008.

David Jones, Student Transportation Director for the Adair County School District, call at 5:30amCT this morning. The closure is due to high water. "Creeks are up all over the county," Jones said, "and the water is still rising."

Many county roads are already flooded, Jones said.

Other weather news this morning:

Power was off in Columbia from around 4:00am to 4:35am. Power went out in Columbia at around 4:00am this morning, but repairmen had restored electricity by 4:35amCT.

Power was off in much of rural Adair County early this morning. Word from KY 206 was that it came back on at around 5:00amCT, averting what could have been a coffee crisis on the Ridge.

Motorists are warned to use extra precaution traveling county roads this morning.
