Storm Feb. 6, 2008: No school in Adair Co. School District today:

Several photos accompany this article

There will be no school in Adair County Schools today, Wednesday, February 6, 2008.

David Jones, Student Transportation Director for the Adair County School District, call at 5:30amCT this morning. The closure is due to high water. "Creeks are up all over the county," Jones said, "and the water is still rising."

Many county roads are already flooded, Jones said.

Other weather news this morning:

Power was off in Columbia from around 4:00am to 4:35am. Power went out in Columbia at around 4:00am this morning, but repairmen had restored electricity by 4:35amCT.

Power was off in much of rural Adair County early this morning. Word from KY 206 was that it came back on at around 5:00amCT, averting what could have been a coffee crisis on the Ridge.

Motorists are warned to use extra precaution traveling county roads this morning.

Storm damage Feb. 6, 2008

KATHY ANTLE heard a loud bang this morning, Wednesday, February 6, 2008 when the wind brought the carporch roof down. She was waiting for the insurance adjuster this morning, and was hoping the the damage to her berm home in the Shepherd School area suffered little more damage than the carporch roof. Behind her, in the background, is Jeff Miller's A-1 Gate Company.

Storm Feb. 6, 2008: Haydon Bridge making most of situation

HAYDON BRIDGE COMPANY employees Kent Townsend, Columbia, KY; Brad Baker, Russell Springs; and Carmen Cartee, Madison County, KY, would have been working on the construction of the bridge over Russell Creek at Henson Farm, but the work site was a late this morning. They were making the most of the situation by getting ready for construction work out in the stream bed as soon as the flood waters recede.

THERE WAS A LAKE where a tame Russell Creek had been. To the right, the ramp went across a temporary Russell Creek drybridge before last night and this morning's downpour covered the span.

Storm Feb. 6, 2008: Road Eighty Bridge Day 129

THIS MORNING'S FLOOD doesn't bring the Road Eighty Bridge any closer to construction. Work was stopped because of the high water. The construction work day calendar isn't counting now, and won't start until April 1, 2008. Only a few days of he Jones-Bourland Co.'s 80 day time frame have been used. The company will still be meeting the terms of its contract even if it takes until the first of June 2008, a company foreman said. The view above is from the west side. The ridgeline at top of photo is Green Hills Road.

RUSSELL CREEK had gotten out of its banks at the KY 206 bridge. The flood waters were just two feet below the KY 206 roadbed when this photo was taken at around Wednesday morning, February 6, 2008.

Storm Feb. 6, 2008: Arnold's Landing Boat Ramp?

A PETTY'S FORK FARM ACCESS ROAD off Image Drive appeared to be a boat ramp this morning when Petty's Fork overflowed it's banks and created a temporary lake. On the left is Image Analysis, ahead is the home of Dr. Ben and Margaret Arnold, with part of the southern tip of the Columbia Western Bypass in the uppper left of the photo.
