Adair, Taylor, Green and LaRue Counties were represented at the annual Dr. Martin Luther King memorial service along with students at Campbellsville University on January 23. The Gospel Explosion Choir, a group of about 40 persons from Adair, Taylor and Green counties, provided special music and the service came to a close with all of the ministers in the chapel invited to the stage, hands joined, leading the congregation singing the anthem We Shall Overcome.

BAPTISTS FROM ADAIR, TAYLOR, GREEN AND LARUE COUNTIES joined students for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King memorial service at Campbellsville University's Ransdell Chapel on January 23. The speaker was the Rev. Gerald Joiner from the historic Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville. The Gospel Explosion Choir, a group of about 40 persons from Adair, Taylor and Green counties, provided special music. The service came to a close with all of the ministers in the chapel invited to the stage, hands joined, leading the congregation singing the anthem We Shall Overcome. (CU photo by Linda Waggener).

ACES Family Math Night held

EVENTS

Adair County Elementary School families and students attended "Family Math Night" at ACES on Monday, January 28, 2008, 5:00 - 6:30pm CT. Parents learned fun and unique ways to help their children with basic mathematical concepts. There was hands-on activities, fun games and materials for parents to take home. Obituary: Marlene Richardson Alley, 65

Mrs. Alley was a member of New Friendship Baptist Church, and owned and operated Marlene's Fabrics on Sano Road, Columbia, for many years

Marlene Alley, 65, of 2086 Sano Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Sunday, January 27, 2008, at 2:24am, at UK Medical Center in Lexington, KY.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at 1:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Ralph Foster and Bro. Willard Bryant the officiating clergy. Interment will be in Free Union Cemetery.

ACPL presents Fun with the Arts on Feb. 4, 2008

EVENTS

The Adair County Public Library will present "Fun with the Arts", a hands-on creative experience for children on Monday, February 4, 2008, from 5:30pm to 6:30pmCT.

Children will be able paint, learn collage making, use creative clay, and work in drawing and coloring.

Lincoln Day Dinner is February 9, 2008 at Liberty, KY

The Casey County Young Republican Federation is hosting their annual Lincoln Day Dinner on February 9, 2008 at the Central Ky Ag/Expo Center, Liberty, KY.

The event is the one Adair County Republicans usually attend. "We don't have a Lincoln Day Dinner in the County," Lisa Lee, Vice Chair of the Adair County Republican Party said. "We ususally go to the Casey County one."

City P&Z gives go ahead to new Holladay Place plans

P&Z gives temporary approval to plans for new 22,000 s.f. strip center, development of outparcels which will include a Goodwill Store, Duo-County Telecom office. P&Z allows reduction of sidewalks, elimination of median berms, as requested by developers. Leaves design of retention basin to city, developer engineers to work out.

The Columbia City Planning Zoning Commission voted 5-0 to give temporary approval to Holladay Place developers for a proposed strip center and for the site design of out parcel development at a hearing Thursday, January 24, 2008 in City Hall.

Barbara Coomer, 74, Columbia, KY (-2008)

Mrs. Coomer was a member of a prominent, highly respected Columbia family, a member of the Columbia United Methodist Church, a homemaker, and a former cheerleader at Campbellvsville High School

Barbara Coomer, age 74, of 516 West Frazier Ave., Columbia, KY died Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 9:35pm at the Norton Audubon Hospital in Louisville, KY, after a short illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at 2:00pmCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, KY, with Rev. David Alexander, Dr. Glenn Sowards & Bro. Randy Johnson the officiating clergy.Interment wiil be in the Columbia Cemetery.
