Football: Indians head to Larue Co.

By Trey Stephens, Staff Writer

Adair County Indians football will be back in action on Friday, as they go on the road to face the LaRue County Hawks (2-3). The Hawks come off a 44-18 win over Butler County last week, while the Tribe comes off a one-sided loss to the Glasgow Scotties.

The Hawks have been a run heavy team this season, rushing for 1049 yards and passing for just 568. The Indians will need to hamper LaRue County's ability to run the ball the best they can. The Tribe will specifically look to slow down the Hawks' leading rusher, sophomore Romeo Bartolomei, who has 46 rushes for 401 yards and 5 touchdowns so far this year. Adair County will also need to keep their eye out for another sophomore, Owen McDowell, on the other side of the ball. McDowell leads LaRue County in tackles, with 37, and interceptions, with five.

The Indians have won two straight over the Hawks and have not lost to them since 2018. They will seek to keep that streak alive Friday, so come up to Hodgenville and support your Indians! Kickoff is scheduled for 7pmCT on Friday, September 26, 2025, at Larue Co. High School, 925 S Lincoln Blvd, Hodgenville, KY.

Travel: A Texas-sized class reunion

The Arnold family left Fairplay to travel to Austin, Texas, in September for Veronica Arnold's 20-year reunion for the Westwood High School Class of 2005.

Veronica says, "goodness its been that long! Took them to see a Texas high school football homecoming game, of course. (I am sporting a Day&Day Feed t-shirt) The giant stadium and the jumbotron... football is serious down there!"

The next day, the Arnold family was were given a tour of the high school Veronica attended. There were over 600 students who walked the stage to graduate with the Class of 2005. Veronica says, "The school is all updated and fancy compared to what I remember in the late 90s and early 2000s. A school administrator gave us the tour and took a quick group shot of those of us who came to show our families around the school."

While they were in Austin, the Arnolds also visited some of Veronic's favorite places growing up in Austin, which you can read about here: Travel: Sharing memories in Austin, TX.

Veronica says, "After all that and crazy travel, getting home in Kentucky, I am so thankful to live here. Yes, I went to school in that big city and its even bigger now. As an adult, I choose to live in Kentucky on a farm with way less noise and people. Adair is beautiful and the people are too! Had several offer to stand in and cover the farm as we got delayed in travels. This is the country I love, with green grass, blue skies (or rainy ones today!) and people who will show up when you're in a jam. Not because we are related or they have to, but because they want to."

Malvina Farkle Day 2025 was a Day of Firsts

Waking up early is not a practice usually associated with college students. But that is what happened on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Lindsey Wilson University as students were up early to take part in the university's annual Malvina Farkle Day.

Named after a mythical Lindsey Wilson graduate and employee known for her dedication to service and good times, classes are dismissed on Malvina Farkle Day while students, faculty and staff spend the morning working on community service projects on campus and in the region and then enjoy an afternoon of campus games and activities.

This year's Malvina Farkle Day was different for several reasons -- it was the first celebrated as Lindsey Wilson University, the morning gathering featured a short performance by the Lindsey Wilson Singers, and it also included more than 40 students who are members of the Beta Clubs at Adair County and Green County high schools.

Lindsey Wilson University All In raises $838K

By Duane Bonifer

The first year of the "All In" campaign at Lindsey Wilson University was an impressive one. In 48 hours, the "All In" campaign raised $838,252 from more than 760 donors during Sept. 23-24, 2025. That eclipsed last year's total by more than $58,000, which was raised when the school was Lindsey Wilson College.

"We're incredibly thankful for the outpouring of support we received once again from alumni, friends, businesses, faculty, staff and students over this two-day period," said Lindsey Wilson Director of Annual Giving Travis Smith '05. "It's just amazing what Lindsey Wilson means to our alumni, employees and friends. Their love for and faith in this university is remarkable. Donations made to the university during 'All In,' and throughout the year, help us deliver the Lindsey Wilson mission to every student, every day."

Smith said the university also received a great deal of local support during the two-day campaign.

"Lindsey Wilson is blessed to have wonderful support from its local community, and that really showed once again this year," said Smith. "We received a great deal of support from Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots, from local businesses and organizations, and from residents of Columbia-Adair County who are proud to have a great university in their town."
