Travel: Trip to Conley Bottom on Lake Cumberland By Linda Waggener Friends from Lindsey Wilson's swim exercise group recently enjoyed a trip on Lake Cumberland for a summer outing. Just south of Somerset, we loaded onto a large tritoon boat, a first for me. A tritoon boat has three pontoons, rather than the traditional two pontoons. The owner said three made it more stable and gave it higher speed potential as well as being able to carry more people. Marvellous Okonne and the impact of shoebox gifts Marvellous Okonne will be the featured speaker at the Green River Area - Operation Christmas Child Project Leader Workshop at 5pmCT on Friday, September 12, 2025, at the Greensburg Baptist Church, 128 North Main St. in Greensburg, KY. The following is a biography that explains the significant impact that a shoebox gift had on his life. From Mark Fudge When a minister asked the name of a newborn son, the mother responded that she was going to call her son Marvellous, praising God for how He has helped her family through many struggles. Marvellous, the youngest of four children, grew up in a part of Central Africa where Christians are persecuted for their faith. Marvellous' family had to run for their lives to escape this religious conflict. As they tried to escape by bus together, Marvellous was separated from his family at the sound of gunfire. He ended up in an orphanage until he was able to be reunited with his family. Settling in a new area and finding it difficult to secure work, Marvellous' parents couldn't afford to send their children to school. But at age 8, Marvellous received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox gift while at church.
