Letter: Methodist Church Mikki Flowers writes: My mother, Yvonne Marshall, says that's not the parsonage in 1950 and 60s. I also remember the parsonage beside the church and that's not the parsonage. After the new church was built I had Sunday School in the parsonage because I'm pretty sure the parsonage was built then that was where I previously lived on West Guardian. Cumberland Expressway still detoured to KY80 in Pulaski Co. From Amber Hale Somerset, KY - The westbound lanes of the Fishing Creek Bridge on the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Expressway (mile point 84.4) in Pulaski County remain closed to traffic as Kentucky Transportation Cabinet engineers work to expedite repairs. The bridge was closed last week following a routine inspection that revealed damage to the bridge deck. For safety reasons, traffic was immediately stopped in the westbound direction. Engineers have since conducted a full inspection of both the eastbound and westbound bridges. No issues were found on the eastbound bridge, and those lanes remain open to traffic. To repair the closed westbound bridge, the Cabinet has secured a contractor to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible with the goal of reopening all lanes by Aug. 30, 2025. Crews are working to obtain the proper materials and have requested that all shipments be expedited. Once materials arrive, full repair work will begin. Engineers looked into building a temporary median crossover to shift westbound traffic onto the eastbound lanes, but due to the short timeline of full repairs that temporary measure would not have been practical. KDVA Homeless Veterans Program 5K Run/Walk Oct 11 From James Hensley Frankfort, KY - The 5th Annual KDVA Homeless Veterans Program 5K Run/Walk will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, KY. The run will begin at 9amET, with race day check-in opening at 8amET. Race entrance fee is donation only (however, a $25 donation is suggested). All participants will receive a race day t-shirt if registered by September 26, 2025, (shirts cannot be guaranteed after this date due to printing deadlines) All proceeds will go to the Kentucky Homeless Veterans Program Trust Fund. SSLOCKY Conference Swim Meet at Holloway Natatorium By Tyler King On Saturday, August 2, 2025, the Holloway Health and Wellness Center hosted the Second Annual SSLOCKY Conference Swim Meet. The event was made up of four teams: Blue Raider Aquatic Club (BRAC), Lakewood Marlins, Russell Rays, and Lake Cumberland Swim Club. More than 170 kids showed up and competed in all strokes. Our BRAC swimmers put in a great fight overall finishing 3rd out of 4. There were many First, Second and Third place finishes by our swimmers in all events. Team spirit was high and even the coaches from each team competed in a relay in which the BRAC coaches A relay took First Place! Awards were announced once the meet had concluded. BRAC had a lot of shining stars win awards:

Sandra Kaye Tucker, 60, Russell County, KY Sandra Kaye Tucker, of Russell Springs, passed from this life Sunday, August 10, 2025, at her home. She was 60 years of age. Born December 5, 1964, she was a daughter of the late Jack Baldridge and Magdeline Wagers Farmer. Sandra enjoyed doing crafts and jewelry making. She also enjoyed going to church and attended Greater Hope Christian Fellowship. Sandra loved her family, and she will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Letter: Columbia Methodist Church questions Frances Knight writes, "My grandfather, Rev. Arthur R. Kasey, was a minister of this church from 1906 to 1909 and I have inherited many photos from my grandparents and parents. I'd like to share a photo of the parsonage and a photo of the church with you. Perhaps they are already in the hallway of the newer church. My grandfather possibly took these photos. "I wonder if Yvonne Marshall is still around and remembers where the parsonage was in the 1950s and 1960s. Or, does anyone else know where it was located. I have a vague memory of visiting Columbia with my parents in the late 1950's or early 1960's. The church was still standing and we visited inside it. My mother, Rev. Kasey's daughter, thought the parsonage stood just to the right of the church, but wasn't sure. I'd love to know where it was located in 1906."
