Letter: Greg Burton's article on Cobbs Hall Marcus Albin writes: I live in the middle of the original plantation property. I back up to the Appomattox River and just 200 feet from the Cobbs cemetery. My wife and I walk the trails daily. We often wonder where the Cobbs house stood and we only guess of a particular flat piece of land overlooking the marsh and Port Walthall. In my back yard some one hundred yards port side was a pontoon bridge carrying troops and gear across the Appomattox to Cobbs Island and then on to Petersburg. 1/4 of a mile further up river is Point of Rocks which staged one of the largest civil war hospitals during the war. If memory serves, there were two tents approx. 100 yards each carrying for the soldier's needs.Comments re: Local History: Thomas Burton and Cobbs Plantation, VA 2022-09-02 21:46:59 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

Looking for donations for animal shelters and workers By Amanda Graziano, BA Hi everyone! As you know we have some very special animal shelters here in Columbia & they work tirelessly to care for the animals found, surrendered, lost and to be adopted. I am looking for items for cats and dogs. Doesn't have to be anything extravagant. A pack of treats, a box of dog cookies, a blanket, a toy, all purpose cleaner, anything will help. You're also welcome to give items for those who care for the babies. I want to be able to give them items for Christmas. Please reach out to me or Stacia to correlate & I will pick up items from you. Thank you to those who have donated already! --Amanda Graziano 941-302-4320 2022-09-02 15:45:30 | Comments | Printable version

Letter: Voting in Primary Marie Freeman writes: I wish Kentucky would change the law where you can vote in the primary even if you're an independent. It's one of 17 states that does not allow you to vote in the primary unless you have a designated party. I believe it's still that way? Maybe somebody can enlighten me if the law has changed. It's the only reason I chose party affiliation.Comments re: Independents are fastest-growing political affiliation in KY 2022-09-02 11:15:18 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback
