Independents are fastest-growing political affiliation in KY From Michon Lindstrom Frankfort, KY - Secretary of State Michael Adams announced Kentucky voter registration as Independent or under other political affiliations is outpacing registration in the two major parties. In July, "Other" registration grew at more than double the rate of Republican or Democrat registration. "Political allegiances are in flux," said Adams. "Republicans recently took the lead in voter registration from Democrats, but there's more to the story, as many voters now do not affiliate with either party. Any candidate for statewide office needs to not just hold the base, but also reach out to others." Carol Perkins: Memories of Recess Previous Column: Owning Your Own Truth By Carol Perkins If you ask a child what his favorite part of school is, he will likely say, "RECESS!" Trying to be quiet, sitting still, and listening is challenging for a rambunctious child. We had morning recess and afternoon recess. Even in cooler weather, we bundled in our coats and nearly knocked each other down, getting to the playground. Someone might yell, "London Bridge," and two girls would form the bridge. We'd sing the song and lower the "bridge" until there was a winner. Drop the Handkerchief was fun, but I seldom caught the person because I couldn't run fast. I dropped it behind someone I could outrun! The boys joined us for Red Rover. The Grizzlies peppered the Blue Raiders with shots over the opening 20 minutes as three found their way on target. Maya Caon finished the night with four saves.
