Arts enthusiasts invited to Thursday meeting

The Adair Arts Council will meet Thursday, June 9, 2022 in room 107 of the Slider Building on the campus of Lindsey Wilson College at 6pmCT.

On the agenda will be discussions of murals and an upcoming project, Paint the Town, and the mission of the AAC. Everyone is invited to attend.

Local candidates set for November Election

Filing to be a candidate in the November 8, 2022 Kentucky General Election closed at 4pmCT on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. A number of County offices were decided at filing or in the May Primary. However, there is intense competition for City Council positions this year, in addition to races for County Jailer, Magistrates and Constable.

Two candidates will vie for the office of Mayor of Columbia:
  • Incumbent Mayor Pamela Hoots
  • Former Mayor Curtis Hardwick

Eleven candidates will compete for City Council. All six current City Council members have filed for reelection and five more candidates have filed to join the race.

  • Craig Dean
  • Linda Waggener

CPD: Break-in stopped in progress, 2 arrested

On Wednesday morning, June 8, 2022, just after 4:30amCT, officers from the Columbia Police Department were dispatched to a break-in in progress on Creekview Drive, off of Oak Street.

Upon arrival, officers observed and detained a male and female who were on the property's front porch. At the front door of the residence, officers observed a screwdriver and credit card wedged in the door.

Both parties were taken into custody. The male subject was additionally found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

CTC Crusade for Children fundraising

Chief Chris Taylor has released the Crusade for Children fundraising totals for 2021 for Campbellsville Fire-Rescue. The Parking Lot Fundraiser continues to add substantially to the total collections, and 2022's totals were slightly higher than 2021's record-setting collections.

Weather outlook improving for this afternoon

Mike Keltner, Director of Adair County Emergency Management, sends word of a severe weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service in Louisville, KY, for an area that includes Adair and all surrounding counties.

In a statement released at 2:28amCT on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, NWS cautioned:
Much of the morning hours will remain dry. However, multiple rounds of strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon and evening. The primary storm threats are isolated damaging winds and large hail. The tornado risk is very low. The main time frame of concern is roughly 2 to 11 PM.
In an update released at 7:46amCT, the Storm Prediction Center updated their outlook for severe weather this afternoon, changing the risk to "Low" for Adair and surrounding counties. According to the latest forecasts, the best chances for severe storms will be over north central Kentucky and southern Indiana.
