Gov. Beshear Provides COVID Update By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - On Monday, February 14, 2022, Gov. Andy Beshear said Kentucky is seeing a good trajectory in regard to weekly cases and positivity rate and that if these trends continue, Kentucky likely will be moving out of the red zone and into the orange or yellow by March 14. The Governor said that if weekly COVID-19 cases and positivity rates continue to decrease, his goal is to provide updated guidance for the state workforce by next month. "The topline message is that cases continue to fall," said Gov. Beshear. "We're still seeing significant numbers of deaths, but cases continue to fall, and the trajectory is exactly what we want to see." From Columbia Adair Utilities District Date Issued: 2/14/2022 Time Issued: 3:30 pm The advisory has been issued due to a main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore this Boil Water Advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using. This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality. Virus deadly to poultry detected in Kentucky flock By Sean Southard Frankfort, KY - Federal and state authorities say a case of avian influenza has been detected in a flock of commercial broiler chickens in Kentucky near the state's border with Tennessee. Kentucky State Veterinarian Dr. Katie Flynn said the United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza in samples taken from the premise in Fulton County, Kentucky. Another suspected case in Webster County, Kentucky, is waiting final lab confirmation. "The Kentucky Department of Agriculture is working closely with animal health officials at both the federal and state government to contain these incidents of avian influenza," Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles said. "Protecting the health of livestock and poultry in the commonwealth is a top priority of the Kentucky Department of Agriculture. Adair Co. Elementary Academic Team takes district top honors By Lisa Newell-Hare Adair County Elementary School Academic Team participants competed Tuesday, February 8 and Saturday, February 12, 2022 in District 38 Governor's Cup at Russell Springs Elementary School. The team bested four other squads to win the title of overall District competition, Adair County Elementary also claimed first place finish in Future Problem Solving (FPS) and Quick Recall, while several students notched individual victories. These achievements have awarded advancement to Regional competition at Joe Harrison Carter Elementary School in Tompkinsville, Kentucky on February 28 and March 5, 2022. "They've been practicing for this since September, so it's great to see all the hard work pay off," says Lisa Newell-Hare, one of the team's two coaches, along with Jeana Pike. "We've got great students and a supportive group of parents/guardians who helped make this happen." Initiative to help kentuckians battling addiction, mental illness By Susan Dunlap Frankfort, KY - Calling it "a significant advancement in the delivery of behavioral health care in Kentucky," Gov. Andy Beshear announced today that four community mental health clinics are participating in a federal initiative to expand access to behavioral, mental health care and medical services. "Kentuckians grappling with multiple issues such as depression, anxiety and addiction need access to care," said Gov. Beshear. "These clinics bring behavioral and physical health services under one roof and tailor services to the needs of the individual and improve health outcomes." The initiative, called the Demonstration Program for Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs), is within the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and is already helping Kentuckians in need. As part of the demonstration program, providers will receive an enhanced federal funding match for treating Medicaid patients.
