Volunteer opportunity coming up in Louisiana

Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) will host its seventeenth rebuilding trip in LaPlace, Louisiana, to help rebuild homes impacted by Category 4 Hurricane Ida.

This outreach will take place from April 9-16 and will bring together thousands of volunteers from across the country to provide roofing, drywall, electrical, painting, and more to families who were devastated by the storm's impact.

Traffic was heavy Monday afternoon after schools let out. Vehicles were lined up all around the historic Adair County Courthouse and traveling in both directions on Jamestown Street.

Online tools to find your 2021 Vehicle Property Tax

If you are needing to know what you paid in vehicle property tax in 2021, the state has a tool at drive.ky.gov that will provide that information.

All you need is the vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). You can find the VIN for your vehicle in a number of places:
  • On the driver's side of the dashboard (viewable through the windshield)
  • In the Driver's side door jamb (looks like a sticker)
  • On the front of your title
  • On your vehicle registration
  • On your insurance card

ACSO: Injury collision on Gradyville Club Road

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 6:50pm, the Adair County Sheriff's Office investigated an injury collision in western Adair County.

Samuel Gaddis, age 50, of Columbia, was traveling west on Gradyville Club Road when he lost control of his vehicle, a 2008 Chevrolet truck. The vehicle went over an earthen embankment and came to rest in a creek.

Adair County EMS treated Gaddis on scene, and then transported him to TJ Health Columbia.

2022 Adair Co. Extension Gardening Project signup

Adair County Extension Service

The Adair County Cooperative Extension Service is sponsoring a Family Gardening Project.

To register for this program, complete the on-line registration form. You will be contacted when to start picking up gardening supplies. The program is available to the first 40 families who register. The registration deadline is Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

This is a family gardening project, therefore the whole family should be involved. You can do container gardening, a regular garden, raised bed gardens or a combination of all of them. The gardens do not have to be large. Small gardens are great, and we will give you resources to show you how to get the most from your garden.

As part of this project, participants will receive vegetable seeds, transplants, a seed starting kit, and educational information needed to grow a garden. Attendance to three meetings is required. Meetings will be held in-person at the Adair County Extension Office on the following dates:

Beverly Jean Williams, 82, Louisville, KY (1939-2022)

Beverly Jean Williams of Louisville passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at her residence. She was 82 years old.

Graveside services will be held at 11amCT on Monday, February 7, 2022 at the Fudge Cemetery.

Karen Rowland featured in Team Kentucky Gallery

Greensburg artist Karen Rowland's painting of "Penn's Old Store, Gravel Switch, Kentucky" is featured in the Spring 2022 Exhibition of the Team Kentucky Gallery.

The Team Kentucky Gallery is on display in two of the main hallways of the state Capitol. Exhibits run in six-month cycles and the first exhibit debuted on July 1, 2021. The current exhibit runs from January 1 to June 30, 2022.

You can view the current pieces in the exhibit, along with a statement provided by each artist, at governor.ky.gov/gallery.

Proclamation honors memory of Bella Streeval

Columbia Mayor Pam Hoots and Adair County Judge Executive Gale Cowan joined to officially proclaim the week of January 31 through February 4, 2022, as CMV week in Columbia in honor of Bella Streeval, who would have celebrated her fifth birthday this week. Bella Streeval's parents Sarah and Jeffrey Streeval joined the Mayor and Judge at the signing ceremony.

Baseball: LWC opens season Feb 4

The Lindsey Wilson baseball team released its 2022 schedule, head coach Ethan Utley has announced.

The Blue Raiders will open their 2022 season with a three-game road contest on February 4-5 against William Carey (MS), who is receiving votes in the national poll, before returning home to play the next 19 out of 20 games at Egnew Park.

The Blue Raiders will begin conference play against Pikeville (KY) on February 25-26 in a three-game home series.

Marilyn Charline Blair, 67, Adair Co., KY native (1954-2022)

Marilyn Charline Blair of Greensburg passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2021 at her home. She was 67 years old.

The funeral services for Marilyn Charline Blair will be conducted at 10amCT on Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S. Main St., Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Greensburg Cemetery.

Visitation is requested from 4pmCT until 8pmCT on Tuesday, at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, and will continue after 7amCT on Wednesday, until the time of the funeral service.

ACSO: Ice a factor in collision in Pellyton community

On Friday evening, January 28, 2022, at approximately 6:34pm, Adair County 911 received a call of a collision approximately 17 miles east of Columbia on KY206 in the Pellyton Community.

The Adair County Sheriff's Office, along with the Knifley Fire Department and Adair County EMS, responded to the area on snow and ice covered roadways.

The collision occurred just prior to Barnetts Creek Road on the bridge. CPR was started on the vehicle operator by the Sheriff's Office and Knifley Fire prior to EMS arrival. Unfortunately, attempts by first responders and EMS were unsuccessful, and the vehicle operator was pronounced dead at the scene.

ACSO: Adair Co. man arrested on methamphetamine charges

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 10:49pm, Sheriff's deputies arrived at a residence on Cape Road in the Melson Ridge Community to investigate a complaint.

Deputies had received information that a man with outstanding warrants for his arrest in Russell County was hiding at the residence.

The subject was located and taken into custody without incident. Methamphetamine with paraphernalia was found on or about his person.

CPD: Trafficking arrest

Early Sunday morning, January 30, 2022, the Columbia Police Department initiated a traffic stop on Burksville Road outside the city limits near Breakaway Lane.

After making contact with the vehicle's operator, K9 Unit Cally was utilized, resulting in the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and other narcotics.

ACSO: Injury collision on KY92

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at 9:45pm, the Adair County Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle collision on Montpelier Road (KY92).

Upon arrival it was found that Betty Gadberry, age 48, was operating a 2012 Ford Focus when she attempted a right hand turn. The vehicle struck ice, and Gadberry lost control of the vehicle as it left the roadway and struck an earthen embankment.

Gadberry was treated on scene by Adair County EMS, and then transported to TJ Health Columbia for additional treatment.

Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with a high near 58F and south wind 5 to 9 mph.

Tuesday Night will be mostly cloudy, with a 30 percent chance of showers after 1amCT. The overnight low will be around 39F, with south wind around 7 mph.
