JOY Ministries Christmas Campaign Raises $47,325! By Hannah Peck J.O.Y Ministries is extending a heartfelt "Thank You" to everyone who supported their Annual Christmas Campaign. "This year was like no other," says J.O.Y. Ministries Treasurer Maggie Coleman. "We are honored, humbled, and touched by the love and generosity shown by this community." This year's fundraising goal of $35,000 was not only met, but surpassed, bringing in $47,325! In the summer of 2021 JOY purchased Ruth's Place, a women & children's shelter slated to open in 2022. The anticipated expenses of operating a multi-unit shelter, continued operation of Cally's House, and meeting the ever-growing needs of the Adair County community were cause for their ambitious goal. In 2021 J.O.Y. provided nearly 2,000 food bags, served 25 people in need of furniture, connected 60 homeless individuals with community resources, provided shelter to 40 people, served 115 Holiday meal boxes, gifted 55 Christmas backpacks to children in need, hosted Camp HOPE for 25 students and hosted Mission Week with 60 participants. Previous Chapter: Walk About, Chapter Seven, or start at the beginning: Walk About: Chapter One. Chapter Eight By Darlene Franklin-Campbell Rosie walked through the department store, keeping her hands laid over her obviously pregnant stomach and grimacing in pain every few minutes. "Excuse me," she said, accidentally bumping into someone. Out of the corner of her eye she saw Clyde, wearing cut-offs, a ball cap, a sweat shirt and a college backpack walk past her. "Time to go to work," Rosie whispered to herself, her heart pounding so hard that she looked to see if it was noticeable through her dress. Her sisters had said, "Act, but be yourself." How did a person act and still be herself? If she were being herself then it wouldn't be an act, would it? Oh, well, she had never had a baby but she had been with her friend, Shayla, when her baby was born, so she would pretend to be Shayla.
