Sudden freezing possible after rain, snow melt-off

In Adair County, the National Weather Service says that temperatures are forecast to drop into the upper teens by sunrise Monday morning. While northwesterly winds will help to dry up most roadways, any residual water on roadways may freeze creating some hazardous driving conditions late tonight into Monday morning's commute.

By Crystal Staley/Chuck Wolfe

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Sunday warned Kentuckians that another advance of frigid weather will create further hazardous driving conditions on Sunday evening and into Monday.

"It's tempting to think the danger has passed because rising temperatures and rain this weekend have combined to rapidly melt snow and ice from our roadways," Gov. Beshear said. "Unfortunately, temperatures are expected to drop dramatically this evening, overnight and into Monday morning. The result will be flash freezing and the onset of 'black ice' that will make driving difficult," Gov. Beshear said. "The snow may be nearly gone, but the need for extreme caution remains. Avoid nonessential travel."

The National Weather Service says rain will taper off west to east on Sunday, with rapidly dropping temperatures following the same pattern. Rain can be heavy at times, and wind will pick up, bringing in cold air in gusts.

No age limit on learning to live with technology

When the pandemic forced most of us to turn almost exclusively to our devices for our day-to-day routines, seniors were no exception. And a generation that has often been hesitant to try new tech suddenly found itself learning about new tools -- a trend that may have stuck.

AARP's annual technology survey reported, not surprisingly, that ownership of all devices is up across all age groups.

Legislative update from Senator Max Wise: Week 1

By Senator Max Wise

As we officially gavel in the Kentucky General Assembly's 2022 Regular Session, your representatives will tackle key issues most important to you that enhance the quality of life of Kentuckians.

The Interim Joint Committees met in the fall and listened to the thoughts and concerns of districts across the Commonwealth. Seeds sown during that interim period have informed this General Assembly and will ensure a fruitful 60-day session establishing policies that improve the lives of Kentucky's residents.

Despite repeated appeals to our governor, a special session in the fall to handle redistricting was not called, so that important legislation was introduced Tuesday, the first day of the session. The constitutional process of redistricting occurs every 10 years and is the sole responsibility of the state legislature. The process is guided by population data gathered by the U.S. Census Bureau and constitutional legal requirements as well as federal statutes and case law.
