CPD: Scammers claim to be from Police Department By Officer Adam Cravens, PIO Columbia Police Department It has been brought to our attention parties have been phoning local businesses and individuals stating they are with The Columbia Police Department and claiming to be working fraud and counterfeit cases. These individuals have gone on to attempt to have the people that they are talking to wire or transfer money, claiming that this will clear up a court fee, fine, or bank account in error. Lindsey Wilson College Confers 409 Degrees at Winter Commencement Lindsey Wilson College held its 114th commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 18, 2021. The first half of the Class of 2022 included the largest cohort to graduate from LWC's doctorate of philosophy in counselor education and supervision program. The class also included LWC's first-ever graduates from the master of science in technology management program. "The growth of these programs speaks to the entrepreneurial spirit thriving today at Lindsey Wilson College," said LWC President William T. Luckey Jr., "It's this mission-driven spirit that propels LWC forward. We challenge ourselves daily to be purposeful in service and innovative in problem-solving." The LWC doctorate of philosophy in counselor education & supervision program awarded 12 doctorate degrees on Saturday; the program's largest graduating class since its inception in 2014. "Over the past several years, the CES program has been building momentum," said LWC Director of Counselor Education & Supervision Jeff Parsons. "We're seeing the fruit of those labors now, with the increasing number of graduates transitioning into professional roles across the country. It was incredibly gratifying to see so many of these graduates walk the stage today." COVID-19 News Brief & Vaccination Update 12/22/2021 By Sam Price Lake Cumberland District Health Department Due to the upcoming Christmas holiday, LCDHD offices will be closed on Thursday and Friday, December 23 and 24. There will be no reports available on those dates, but reports will resume on Monday, December 27. LCDHD staff will continue to work positive cases reported over the weekend. The Omicron variant of COVID-19 was identified in Kentucky at the end of last week. It will only be a matter of time before it becomes the dominant strain here. While it seems it is highly transmissible, vaccination is still the best strategy to protect yourself and your families from serious illness and possible hospitalization. If you have not yet received your vaccination, please consider getting it now. Also, remember that boosters are strongly recommended for everyone after 6 months. Of today's 76 reported cases, 63 (83%) were unvaccinated and 14 of today's cases (18%) were in individuals 18 years of age or younger. Please take the necessary precautions to protect yourself and your loved ones. Consider getting the vaccine if you are eligible and haven't, and wear a mask when in indoor settings where there are large crowds. Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 9.61%.
