Lindsey Wilson Fourth in Learfield Cup Standings

By Christopher Coombs

Lindsey Wilson athletics sits in fourth place of the NAIA Learfield College Directors' Cup standings following the completion of fall championships, National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) officials announced on Thursday.

The Blue Raiders amassed 247 points during the fall championships -- which includes men and women's cross country, football, men and women's soccer and women's volleyball.

Lindsey Wilson football added 83 points to the final ranking for its third place finish in the NAIA Football Championship Series. Football joins men's soccer and women's soccer who both finished in 11th with 57 points as women's volleyball took 17th to accrue 50 points.

Oregon Tech takes the top spot in the standings with 275.50 points while Indiana Wesleyan is a close second with 270 points. Marian (Ind.) is third with 261 points while Central Methodist (Mo.) rounds out the top-five with 241 points.

Seven other institutions from the Mid-South Conference appear in the standings. Cumberlands (Ky.) is 27th with 141.50 points, UT Southern (Tenn.) is 42nd with 100 points, as Cumberland (Tenn.) is in 48th with 82 points. Campbellsville (Ky.), Life (Ga.) and Shawnee State (Ohio) are also featured in the list in 58th, 60th and 77th, respectively.

The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between NACDA and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in 13 sports during their championships. The NAIA must count four sports -- men and women's basketball, men's soccer and volleyball -- with the remaining nine coming from any of the remaining championship sports.

The winter standings will be released on March 31.
