Flags to half-staff in honor those lost and impacted by storms By Crystal Staley/Scottie Ellis Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff for one week in honor of the Kentuckians who were lost to or have been impacted by the tornado events of Friday night/Saturday morning, Dec. 10-11. Flags at state office buildings should be lowered to half-staff beginning at sunrise on Tuesday, Dec. 14, and remain so until sundown on Monday, Dec. 20. Gov. Fire Department responds to 2 homes over weekend By Donald Hare The Columbia Fire Department responded to report of a possible house on fire Sunday afternoon at 208 Miller Avenue. Upon arrival, there was light smoke coming from one side of the house. The fire was extinguished and contained to the kitchen area of the home. There were no injuries reported. The property owner is Danny Downey, and the house is occupied by Barry Taylor. There were 11 firefighters on scene for approximately 45 minutes. The Columbia Police Deptartment along with the Adair County Sheriff's Office assisted on scene. The Adair County Fire Department responded to 125 Cape Road on Saturday afternoon at 1:28pmCT, to a residential mobile home fire. Upon arrival, the home was completely engulfed in flames and was a total loss. ACSO: Officers assisted in Muhlenburg County By Sheriff Josh Brockman Adair County Sheriff's Office The Adair County Sheriff's Office joined in the relief efforts for Western Kentucky over the weekend due to the tornadoes and storms that caused widespread damage and loss of life. Sheriff Brockman and deputies Kenny Perkins and Chandler Staten traveled to Muhlenburg county to assist the Muhlenburg County Sheriff. A tornado touched down in the community of Bremen within the county and resulted in 12 fatalities and multiple injuries. We originally received a call from Adair County native Deputy Attorney General Barry Dunn, who advised us they were needing help and Attorney General Daniel Cameron was sending officers from their agency down. We made contact with Sheriffs Office there and Sheriffs Association who confirmed they could use more help with security of the community and shutting down of roads. We headed out immediately. Tornado Relief/Assistance By Gale B. Cowan Adair County Judge Executive As usual, Adair County residents are stepping up and wanting to help our friends and neighbors affected by the devastating tornadoes over the weekend. I have been in contact with these county officials and legislators all weekend offering assistance and asking what the immediate needs are. The first and most important....PRAYER! Pray for the families that lost loved ones, pray for those who have lost everything, pray for the first responders and the elected officials. I will be on a statewide zoom call in the morning to discuss the immediate needs in each county and community that was affected by the tornados. The purpose of the call is to communicate the exact needs for each community and how to distribute and meet these needs. Christmas Craft kits for ACES families It's Time for Christmas Crafts! ACES families are encouraged to drive by the Adair County Elementary School, 870 Indian Dr, Columbia, KY, on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, between 3:15pmCT and 5pmCT to pick up a family craft kit. The kits will be handed out on the front porch, and families are asked to remain in their vehicle. The kit contains Christmas crafts along with the necessary supplies. A fun Christmas Math Tangram activity has been included as well. We encourage you to get a kit and complete the crafts as a family. Tornado struck Saloma community at 3:30 Saturday morning By Taylor County Emergency Management Director, Ronnie Dooley Shared by Larry Smith, General Manager, 99.9 The Big Dawg December 11, 2021 -- Approximately 3:30 AM EST, a devastating tornado touched down in NorthWestern Taylor County and proceeded to move NorthEast across the Northern part of Taylor county. Areas affected included Quisenberry Road, Sanders Road, Feather Creek Road, Pleasant Hill Church Road, Kindness Road, & Finley Ridge Road before moving into Marion County. This tornado displaced 70 families. Their homes were heavily damaged/completely destroyed. Emergency service personnel responded but was hampered by numerous large diameter trees being down before the disaster scene could be reached.
