Gary James Viers, 64, Taylor County, KY (1957-2021)

Gary James Viers, age 64, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on November 5th, 2021, at his home. He was born February 1, 1957, to the late James Viers and Mattie Bell Bray.

He married Debra Viers on September 29, 1978. They reside in Campbellsville, Kentucky. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors. He professed faith in Christ and attended Stoner Creek United Methodist Church.

Brenda Lou Withers, 73, of Russell Springs, KY, passed away at 10:15am Saturday, November 6, 2021 while in the company of family members.

She was born in Columbia, KY on August 15, 1948, a daughter of the late Ada (Jasper) Harris and William Floyd. She was an Homemaker and Quilt Maker. She was the widow of Johnny Withers.

Football: LWC dominant in 77-14 win over CU

Top-ranked Lindsey Wilson football captured a pair of cherished trophies today with a 77-14 win over visiting Campbellsville University at Parnell Family Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (9-0, 6-0 in the Mid-South Conference Bluegrass Division) retained the Highway 55 Traveling Trophy -- the sixth straight win in the series with the Tigers (1-7, 1-5). Lindsey Wilson improves to 8-4 all-time against Campbellsville.

Lindsey Wilson also captured sole possession of the MSC Bluegrass Division and a berth into the NAIA's Football Championship Series which begins in two weeks. The divisional title is the third straight for the Blue Raiders and fourth in five seasons.

Swimming: LWC Women defeat Union and Campbellsville

Barbourville, KY - The Lindsey Wilson women's swimming team defeated Union (KY) 210-1 and Campbellsville University 200.5-51.5 on the road Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Raiders racked up five provisional standards for the meet.

Donnie B. Farmer, 88, Campbellsville, KY (1933-2021)

Donnie B. Farmer, formerly of Campbellsville and Louisville, passed away on November 1, 2021, in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 88 years old.

A graveside service will be held at 1pmET on Thursday, November 11, 2021, at Jones Chapel Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Jonathan Nelms.

ACHS Academic Team Wins 1st Overall at JV Challenge

The Adair County High School Academic Team earned 1st Place overall honors in their first big event of the competitive season at the JV Challenge regional event on Saturday, November 6. Adair had 9 individual medal placements at the event: the most of any of the seven schools at the contest.

Earning 1st place in both Language Arts and Arts and Humanities was Bailey Watts. The team earned three of the top six awards in Science as Trevir Andrews placed 2nd overall, Tristin Andrews placed 3rd, and Andrew Zinati placed 6th. Tristin Andrews also won 1st Place honors in the Math competition, while his brother Trevir Andrews placed 3rd in the event. Mia Schneider took home 4th Place for her writing in the Composition competition. First time competitor Andrew Butler made his mark by grabbing 6th Place in the Social Studies competition.

The JV Challenge event is an annual regional competition for 9th and 10th grade students only. Adair's championship team was comprised of all Freshmen and competed in the seven-team contest against other schools anchored mostly by Sophomore members. The event was held at Southwestern Pulaski High School.

Adair's Academic Team is also currently undefeated in the Green River Regional Academic League that has been taking place since September.

WWJD about the refugees on the border

Campus minister Trent Creason led students in a refugee simulation during Missions Week at Campbellsville University, consisting of a refugee camp registration, security screening, medical station, language school, water and food station, holding area, immigration judge, resettlement interview and debriefing.

Student Hannah Sanders shared her experiences and thoughts afterward in the Q&A session that follows.

How did it feel to be in the refugee situation?
Hannah: I was a coyote and could either help students or hurt them in their journey to getting into their country. (A coyote is a smuggler of immigrants across the Mexico-United States border.)

Delmas Landon Coomer, 85, Adair County, KY

Delmas Landon Coomer, 85, of the Millerfield community of Adair County, KY died Friday, November 5, 2021 at his home.

He was united in marriage to Judy Stone on April 1, 1960. He worked for many years at the Cudahy Cheese Plant in Russell Springs and dairy farmed. His favorite hobby was coon hunting with walker dogs. He attended the Millerfield Brethren-in-Christ Church since. 1970.

Stanley Lee Coomer, 58, Taylor County, KY (1963-2021)

Stanley Lee Coomer, age 58, of Campbellsville, KY passed away on November 2, 2021, after a valiant battle against COVID-19. Stanley was born October 7, 1963, to Lola Mae Coomer and the late Herbert Coomer.

He was employed by Hometown Butcher Shop in Columbia. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed the outdoors. Making people laugh came natural for him.
