David Wooldridge, 60, Jamestown, KY (1961-2021)

David Wooldridge of Jamestown passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at Russell County Hospital. He was 60 years old.

Funeral Services are scheduled for 11amCT on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Bernard Funeral Home, 367 N. Main St., Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Glen Wooldridge and Bro. Brian Fudge officiating. Burial will follow in Jamestown City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held after 9:30amCT on Saturday, at Bernard Funeral Home, until time for funeral services.

Mystery Tree officially identified

Retired District Forester Billy Joe Fudge has paid a house call, and confirms that the mystery tree is in fact a hackberry, as Marie Freeman and Mark Bright had earlier suspected from the photo.

LWC Volleyball begins 2021 season with Vette City Classic

The (RV) Lindsey Wilson Volleyball team kicks off their 2021 season on the road this weekend to participate in the Vette City Classic in Bowling Green, KY.

The Blue Raiders return key pieces from the previous season. On the offensive side, Lindsey Wilson retains four players who recorded over 150 kills in Alexis Smith, Madison Bidwell, Radaisy Valdez, and Alix Stoermer. Defensively, the Blue Raiders return the top two dig leaders from the previous campaign with Lauren Larzelere who had 472 digs and Camryn Rich who totaled 319 digs. Rich also guided the Blue Raider offensive attack last season with a team-high 908 assists.

Lindsey Wilson will play two matches on Friday and two on Saturday. The Blue Raiders are set to face Loyola (LA) and No. 16-ranked Marian (IN) at 11:30amCT and 4:30pmCT on Friday, respectively. The following day, the Blue Raiders face Indiana University Southeast at 2pmCT and (RV) Reinhardt (GA) at 7pmCT. All matches will take place at Ephram White Gym.

CPD: Meth arrest on Page Street

Columbia Police Department

The Columbia Police Department responded to a residence on Page Street on Thursday, August 19, 2021, on what was a third party call reporting a domestic altercation.

Upon arrival, a male subject had left the scene. Less than two hours later officers responded back to the address when a second call was placed stating that the male had returned. Knowing that the party had an active warrant, officers placed the male suspect into custody upon arrival. Once in custody, suspected narcotics were located on subject's person.

Sam Bingham Holmes, 94, Columbia, KY (1927-2021)

Sam Bingham Holmes of Columbia passed away on Wednesday, August 18, 2021, at T. J. Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, KY. He was 94 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2pmCT on Sunday, August 22, 2021, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg St., Columbia, KY. Burial will follow in the Haven Hill Cemetery, with military honors provided by VFW Post 6097.

Visitation will be on Sunday after 11amCT at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home.

Wise considering a run for Governor in 2023

According to reports from various state news outlets, Senator Max Wise is considering a run to be the Republican candiate for Governor in 2023. WLEX says that Wise was singled out as one of a couple of names "you'll be hearing a lot about" by Rep. James Comer at a Fancy Farm event recently.

Wise, a Campbellsville native, is currently serving his second term in the Kentucky Senate, representing the 16th District which encompasses Adair, Clinton, Cumberland, McCreary, Russell, Taylor, and Wayne Counties. He is Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Education; as well as co-chairman of the Education Assessment and Accountability Review Subcommittee.

EWDC releases July 2021 Unemployment Report

Frankfort, KY - Kentucky's seasonally adjusted preliminary July 2021 unemployment rate was 4.4%, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics (KYSTATS), an agency within the Education and Workforce Development Cabinet (EWDC).

The preliminary July 2021 jobless rate was unchanged from June 2021 and down 1.2 percentage points from the 5.6% recorded for the state one year ago.

The U.S. seasonally adjusted jobless rate for July 2021 was 5.4%, down from the 5.9% reported in June 2021, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Labor force statistics, including the unemployment rate, are based upon estimates from the Current Population Survey of households. The survey is designed to measure trends in the number of people working, and includes jobs in agriculture and individuals who are self-employed.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information 8-18-2021

Active (Current) Cases: Since our last report, we added 42 more cases than we had deceased and/or released cases. This leaves us with 891 active cases in our district across all 10 of our district's 10 counties. On 12/10/2020 we were at our peak number of active cases, 1,338.

Where Did Cases Visit Prior to Isolation: The most common places cases visited prior to isolation are (in descending order): Businesses, Schools, Medical Facilities, and Family. Of our active cases, 35% can not be tied back to another known case (community-spread cases).

New Cases: We report that our total case count has increased by 194 since our last report. Our new cases (including suspect cases) are as follows: Adair: 28; Casey: 11; Clinton: 6; Cumberland: 6; Green: 20; McCreary: 11; Pulaski: 43; Russell: 20; Taylor: 40; and, Wayne: 9. Our current new case growth rate is: 1.00602. This means our total case count is projected to double every 115.48 days. The most new cases we ever added in a single day was on 12/30/2020 when we added 301 cases.

Statewide Testing Positivity Rate: 12.59%.

Kylee Miller is new CU student activities director

Campbellsville, KY - Kylee Miller, assistant director of student activities at Campbellsville for four years, has received a promotion to director of student activities and intramurals.

Miller was employed as the assistant director since she has moved to Campbellsville when her husband, Mark Miller, was hired as the head coach for men's and women's outdoor/indoor track and field in 2017.

"When my family and I moved here, I started working as an assistant director in student activities and immediately fell in love with the role and community," Miller said.
