LWC Volleyball begins 2021 season with Vette City Classic

The (RV) Lindsey Wilson Volleyball team kicks off their 2021 season on the road this weekend to participate in the Vette City Classic in Bowling Green, KY.

The Blue Raiders return key pieces from the previous season. On the offensive side, Lindsey Wilson retains four players who recorded over 150 kills in Alexis Smith, Madison Bidwell, Radaisy Valdez, and Alix Stoermer. Defensively, the Blue Raiders return the top two dig leaders from the previous campaign with Lauren Larzelere who had 472 digs and Camryn Rich who totaled 319 digs. Rich also guided the Blue Raider offensive attack last season with a team-high 908 assists.

Lindsey Wilson will play two matches on Friday and two on Saturday. The Blue Raiders are set to face Loyola (LA) and No. 16-ranked Marian (IN) at 11:30amCT and 4:30pmCT on Friday, respectively. The following day, the Blue Raiders face Indiana University Southeast at 2pmCT and (RV) Reinhardt (GA) at 7pmCT. All matches will take place at Ephram White Gym.


Loyola (2-2) enters the match coming off a four-set win against Keiser (FL). The Wolfpack totaled 53 kills in their outing, with six players recording at least five kills. The Wolfpack's defense held Keiser to a hitting percentage of 20.4 with 55 digs and seven blocks.

Marian opens their 2021 season against Mid-South competitor Georgetown (KY) before facing Lindsey Wilson on Friday. The Knights return with 14 players from last season's roster after an 18-5 record and an appearance in the NAIA National Championship Pool Play.

Indiana University Southeast opens their season in the Vette City Classic as they square off against Pikeville (KY) on Friday. The Grenadiers are coming off a 10-9 2020 campaign with an appearance in the River States Conference Semifinals. Indiana Southeast returns 10 student-athletes from the previous season's team.

Reinhardt is set to begin their 2021 campaign against Georgetown on Friday evening. The Eagles finished the previous season with a 22-6 record with an Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament championship and an NAIA National Championship Opening Round appearance.

Live video will be provided for Lindsey Wilson's matches against Marian on Friday at 4:30pmCT and Indiana University Southeast on Saturday at 2pmCT. Live stats are available for all matches at the Vette City Classic. Tickets for the Vette City Classic can be purchased at the Mid-South Conference website.

First serve for the Blue Raiders is scheduled for 11:30amCT on Friday.
