KY Individual income tax return deadline extended to May 17 By Jill Midkiff Frankfort, KY - At the direction of Gov. Andy Beshear, the Kentucky Department of Revenue will extend the 2020 Kentucky individual income tax filing deadline to May 17, 2021. This extension follows the income tax relief provisions issued March 17 by the federal Internal Revenue Service in response to delays and disruptions caused by the ongoing response to the novel coronavirus worldwide health pandemic. Individual taxpayers can also postpone Kentucky individual income tax payments for the 2020 tax year due on April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021, without penalties and interest, regardless of the amount owed. This postponement applies to individual taxpayers only. Penalties, interest and additions to tax will begin to accrue on any remaining unpaid balances as of May 17, 2021. Individual taxpayers will automatically avoid interest and penalties on the taxes paid by May 17. This relief does not apply to 2021 estimated tax payments that are due on April 15, 2021. Individual taxpayers do not need to file any forms or call the Kentucky Department of Revenue to qualify for this automatic individual income tax filing and payment relief. Carol Perkins: Cleaning the Woodpile Previous Column: Carol Perkins: Cures for sleepless nights part 2, the pacifier By Carol Perkins I asked Guy if he had ever cleaned a woodyard. "Why would I clean a woodyard?" he responded. "What's the purpose?" I knew he had never participated. I don't remember cleaning it at my house, but I vividly recall helping at my grandmother's house. In preparation for the time when my grandfather and uncle would fire up the woodstoves, they would first make room for the new wood by tidying up the remains of the old ricks. Raking wood chips, restacking misplaced sticks of wood, and pulling weeds from the remaining rick was a chore nobody enjoyed. Snakes sometimes hid in the woodpile. I assumed cleaning up the woodpile was a common practice. Their woodyard was not far from the house, with only a gravel drive that led to the tractor shed between them, so having an organized woodpile was important. Guests sitting out in the yard might notice! Over time, if not cleaned, the chips might pile up to the knees. Of course, those chips didn't go to waste. They were good fire starters. My cousin Roberta and I spent half our summers in that woodyard creating spectacular playhouses. Variety of bills receive final passage before veto recess begins By Jordan Hensley, LRC Frankfort, KY -- Lawmakers raced to approve bills in the figurative and literal 11th hour Tuesday evening. Today marked the beginning of the veto recess, which means yesterday was the last day lawmakers could pass bills and still have the opportunity to override any gubernatorial vetoes before the final day of the legislative session. The governor has 10 days to sign a bill, let it become law without his signature or veto it. Here are some of the bills that received final passage before both chambers adjourned shortly before midnight last night: Article continues... click title or click here to read whole article. 2021-03-18 03:57:35 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Politics
LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 3/17/2021 By Amy Tomlinson Lake Cumberland District Health Department Over the weekend, we picked up a mobile clinic van that had been on back-order for several weeks. We will be utilizing it to enhance our vaccination efforts. We had our first pilot run today and it went very well. Cases have slowed enough that we have asked for the state's master data set to compare against ours. Over the next few days, we will "scrub" the data and work with the state to make sure that what we have recorded matches what they have recorded. During the surge, neither we nor the state had the time to adequately reconcile the data as we went. Our total number of new cases went down today compared to last Wednesday, so our 7-day average incidence rate went down as well. We now have 5 counties in the "yellow-community-spread" category, Adair, Casey, Clinton, Cumberland, and Russell; and 5 counties in the "orange-accelerated" range of community-spread: Green, McCreary, Pulaski, Taylor, and Wayne. None of our counties are presently in the "red-critical" range. While cases are still dropping for the moment in the United States, it should be noted that on the global level, cases have started to rise again. Countries like Brazil, India, France, Italy, and Germany are seeing sharp increases. Therefore, please don't assume that the pandemic is completely behind us, and take the vaccine as soon as you can. Also, until the vaccine is widely available, and a significant percentage of the population has taken in, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces.
