Governor recommends some form of in-person learning by Mar 1

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - On Tuesday, Gov. Andy Beshear announced he is issuing a new executive order that recommends all school districts, including private schools, offer or expand some form of in-person instructional opportunities beginning March 1.

If district personnel have not yet finished their vaccine series as of March 1, the executive order recommends some form of in-person instruction begin seven days after they have received their second vaccination.

"What we foresaw is that the safest way to expand in-person opportunities is to vaccinate all of our school personnel," said Gov. Beshear. "Since then, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others have moved that way and other states have followed our lead."

Lt. Gov. Coleman said the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE) issued a comprehensive, 136-page manual, KDE COVID-19 Guidance 2.0, which will assist with the shift back into school buildings.

"Kentucky continues to be a national leader in vaccinating our school staff, and getting our kids back in the classroom safely remains a top priority for every Kentuckian - from the Governor to our littlest learners," said Lt. Gov. Coleman. "With this guidance, we hope to make the transition back to in-person learning as smooth and safe as possible."

New Team Kentucky Gallery to feature art by Kentuckians

By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear and First Lady Britainy Beshear on Monday invited Kentuckians to lend their artistic talents to a new Team Kentucky Gallery, which will be located in a main hall of the state Capitol in Frankfort.

The Beshears said the Capitol is the people's house and there is no better place to highlight Kentuckians' voices as represented through art.

"Once we defeat COVID-19 and more Kentuckians can visit the Capitol, we want to make sure they see their stories and communities represented and that they're reminded of all the reasons Kentucky is so special," said Gov. Beshear. "This art exhibit will be by Kentuckians and for Kentuckians - just the way it should be."

The submission deadline for artworks is May 15. Artworks will be selected by June 1. Artists can submit photos of their artwork using the webform at governor.ky.gov/gallery.

LCDHD COVID-19 Public Information Brief 2/22/2021

See also: LCDHD: COVID-19 Vaccination Sites

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

We added more cases today than last Monday. This could be due to more people being tested post-blizzard. It will be next week before we can really see if our case rates are continuing to go down. In any event, our district-wide 7-day average incidence rate went up slightly today.

We now have 5 counties in the "orange-critical" range of community-spread: Casey, Clinton, McCreary, Pulaski, and Wayne. Only 5 counties are in the "red-critical" range of community-spread: Adair, Cumberland, Green, Russell, and Taylor. Last week, all 10 of our 10 counties were in the "red-critical" range of community-spread.

With more and more vaccine sites opening and more and more vaccine coming into our area, the end of this pandemic is approaching. To prevent a resurgence of the disease, let's all do our part in slowing the spread of COVID-19 by wearing our face coverings, avoiding crowds (especially in confined spaces), social distancing when around others, increasing our hand hygiene, increasing our general sanitation, and by avoiding touching our faces.
