Virtual Christmas Play set for local premiere

The ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic has been rough on many businesses and the theatre is no different. The current restrictions and the concern for the public's safety have curtailed traditional theatre this Christmas season. A new form of theatre, virtual theatre, has emerged during this pandemic, and a group of local actors has decided to present the first local virtual play for this holiday season.

Tyler Flatt is a long-time actor, director, and member of the Star Theater in Russell Springs, as well as the Theatre teacher at Russell County High School. He will be directing the new production.

Flatt says, "We were originally set to do an in-person production at the Star Theater, but the new restrictions made that almost impossible. So we dropped that play and switched to this one. We came together and called ourselves Studio 457 so we could continue to create theatre."

Studio 457 will be presenting Elves: Disaster in the Control Room, written by Mollie Ottenoff and produced in special arrangement with Eldridge Publishing.

The virtual play will hold two performances for the public on December 21st at 7pmCT and December 22, at 7pmCT. Audiences will simply watch the play from any device that can connect to the internet. With tickets only being $5 per household, this virtual production is an affordable treat for the entire family! Tickets may be purchased now at showtix4u.com or find Studio 457 on Facebook for more information.

New CDC quarantine guidance

By Amy Tomlinson
Lake Cumberland District Health Department

I have attached the new quarantine guidance from the CDC that the state of Kentucky has adopted as an option. This is for your planning purposes. There are still some cases where the exposure was extremely high risk and a contact might be asked to quarantine for 14 days, however many will likely fall under this new guidance. Remember, the new guidance is ONLY for CONTACTS, not confirmed cases.

12/03/2020 Guidance for the New CDC COVID-19 Quarantine Options: If you are exposed to a COVID-19 positive person, you should go into quarantine. Your time in quarantine will keep you from spreading the virus to others, if you are infected and have no symptoms. When in quarantine, you should wear your mask indoors and outdoors. Do not mix with other people outside of your household at all, and mix with the people you live with only if absolutely necessary.

Three different ways you can quarantine as long as you have NO symptoms:
  • 1. Quarantine for 14 days; especially if you are going to be around people that are high-risk for the virus: elderly, people with co-morbidities, immunocompromised (Recommended)
  • 2. Quarantine for 10 days if you have NO symptoms
  • 3. Quarantine for 7 days if you have a negative COVID-19 test on or after Day 5 and have NO symptoms

Take steps to protect yourself and others:
  • Stay away from people you live with -- use a separate room and bathroom, if possible
  • Do not go to work, school, or other places outside your home
  • Do not allow others into your home
  • Ask friends or family to bring groceries, medicines, or supplies, and to drop them off without face-to-face contact.
If you need support or help call your healthcare provider, local health department, or 1-844-KYTRACE.
