Tribute To Larry Rodgers The Adair County Basketball program is heart-broken with the loss of Larry Rodgers. He was an important person to the program, community, and myself personally. His passing and legacy should be acknowledge in a very public and transparent manner. When I was interviewing for this job, Coach Breeze made it a point to take and introduce me to Larry. He immediately treated Breeze and I like his own children. We are internally grateful for what he did for us. Larry and I spent so many hours out at dinner, the A frame loft, or in the gym discussing basketball, the community, or one of his many adventures. I told his daughters for someone to take a stranger, put him under his wing, speaks volumes about the person he was. Finally, he loved his Indians and Lady Indians! The support and help he gave to the kids of this community cannot be measured. He loved his softball team and all of his former players. His prized possessions were his brothers and daughters. A conversation did not pass that he did not brag on them. Please support his family during this time, and please be thankful for all he did! Goodbye, Larry. I am going to miss you my friend! With Love and Gratitude, Coach Daniel Hedges 2020-10-08 17:58:32 | Comments | Printable version

Kentucky working to reduce roadway crashes By Erin G. Eggen Frankfort, KY - To help drivers and passengers remember the importance of seat belt use and other safe driving practices, Kentucky is promoting Operation Crash Reduction (OCR). The operation runs from Oct. 9 through Oct. 12 with a goal of saving lives and preventing injuries due to traffic crashes. During this time, law enforcement will conduct a high-visibility enforcement campaign, with an emphasis on seat belt use. "As a driver, you're not alone on the road, so you can't prevent every possible collision. But you can ensure that every time you get in the car, you are as safe as possible if a crash happens," said Gov. Andy Beshear. "Put your phone down and buckle up." The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety (KOHS), state and local law enforcement and the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are teaming up to support the operation. Gov. Beshear Provides Update on COVID-19 By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen Frankfort, KY - Gov. Andy Beshear on Thursday updated Kentuckians on the state's continuing efforts to fight the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). He also condemned an alleged plot to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. "This is not an isolated incident. Here in Kentucky, I was hung in effigy just yards from where we are standing on your Capitol grounds. Another man who made threats against me and Kentucky State Police was arrested at his home, where he was making grenades," said Gov. Beshear. "These groups are not freedom fighters, they are terrorists." Case Information As of 4 p.m. Oct. 8, Gov. Beshear said there were at least 77,455 coronavirus cases in Kentucky, 884 of which were newly reported Thursday. One hundred and eight of the newly reported cases were from children ages 0-18, of which 32 were children ages 0-5. "This is about 20 cases less than we had this day last week. It's about 200 more than we had in the two preceding weeks before that," said Gov. Beshear. "It gives you an idea again that even excluding some of the backlog cases that came in yesterday we are unfortunately on track to have the single largest week thus far in this epidemic." Face masks should be worn properly By Joyce M. Coomer Face masks and social distancing are two effective ways to avoid conracting COVID-19. However, unless face masks are worn properly, they might as not be utilized. It is VERY, VERY IMPORTANT that the nose be covered, as well as the mouth, otherwise there is little protection for either the person wearing the mask or anyone within 15 to 20 feet of them. Please keep this in mind. 2020-10-08 13:14:34 | Comments | Printable version

Carol Perkins: Day trip to Green River Lake Previous Column: I should have known better By Carol Perkins My Sunday drive with my mother took us to the Green River Lake State Park and other points along the lake. Having never been there and hearing my Greensburg and Campbellsville friends talk about the area, I headed that direction. What we saw was beyond beautiful. We took the first entrance off Hwy 55 between Greensburg and Campbellsville and spotted water through the trees. Picnic tables lined the banks high above the lake and several people were enjoying the sunny day. We crossed the bridge, circled, and came back to the main road until we came to a sign for the marina. Following that road, we discovered an area where hundreds of houseboats lined the dock. I had no idea how popular this lake was. We drove as close to the marina as possible, examining the beautiful boats and wondering if the owners were inside for the final day of the weekend.
