August is Immunization Awareness Month By Crystal Staley/Sebastian Kitchen August is Immunization Awareness Month, and today Gov. Beshear reminded Kentuckians of the importance of keeping themselves and their families up to date on vaccinations. The Governor shared an informational video on the topic as well, from Foundation for a Healthy Kentucky, which can be viewed here. "One of the things that happened while we were all sheltering at home this spring and early summer was a big decline in vaccinations among Kentuckians," said Gov. Beshear. "The rates have come back up as families feel safe going back to their physicians' offices, but we're still quite a bit behind where we need to be. And we're about to enter into flu season, when getting our annual flu shot is vitally important to keeping our immune systems strong." When people get vaccinated, they not only protect themselves from a disease, but they also prevent themselves from spreading it to others who may be more vulnerable, including infants, seniors and people with compromised immune systems. Letter: Still haven't found any puffballs Marie Freeman writes: Everybody's having all this luck finding puffballs and I've yet to find one. The two pictures on the magazine are enough to do me for the winter. I could dehydrate that and have me enough for pizza and soup, salad, and a couple fresh meals. That one in Indianapolis, I'd have enough left for even some squirrel food.Comments re: Giant puffball mushroom 2020-08-20 12:50:19 | Comments | Printable version | See topic Letters and Reader Feedback

City reminds everyone to fill out Census to help funding From Columbia City Hall We were recently asked to remind everyone that US Census workers are still out going door to door in our community. No, this isn’t probably the best time, and no, many people may not like it, however gathering this information is pertinent to funding being delivered to our communities. When our communities grow in numbers, it is imperative we show the government , through the Census, that we have grown. Thus more funding hopefully coming our way for infrastructure in the future. With that being said, we do ask everyone to be considerate of these workers if they were to knock at your door. We just want the best and most accurate Census 2020 for our community. There are three ways to be counted: - Online at www.my2020census.gov - By Phone: 844-330-2020 for English, or 844-468-2020 for Spanish. - Or by Mail: U.S. Census Bureau National Processing Center, 100 Logistics Avenue Jeffersonville, IN 47144 2020-08-20 05:55:31 | Comments | Printable version
