Central Kentucky Career Academy visits Manchester Tank

On Thursday, January 9, 2020, welding instructors from the Central Kentucky Career Academy, along with administrators from Campbellsville University's adult welding program, visited Manchester Tank in Quincy, Illinois.

The goals of the visit were to meet the Manchester Tank team and to ensure Taylor County Schools is equipping our welding students with the skills needed to succeed and excel in the workforce.

Welding instructors from the Central Kentucky Career Academy and administrators from Campbellsville University's adult welding program, visited Manchester Tank in Quincy, Illinois as the New Year began to ensure Taylor County is equipping welding students with the skills needed to succeed and excel in the workforce. At the meeting were: Steve McDaniel, welding instructor; Jordan Tedrow, welding instructor; Chris King, Director or Welding Technology; and Jason Roop, Director of Technology Training at CU; Keith Norris, Plant Manager; Corrie Eifert, General Manager; and Steve Reynolds, Continuous Improvement Manager.

Boil Water Advisory issued for Montpelier Road area

Columbia/Adair Utilities District
January 18, 2020


As of 6:00 p.m. on January 18, 2020 a boil water advisory is in effect for consumers from 61 Montpelier Road to 1533 Montpelier Road, Harlan Brown Road, Keen Wilson Road and Combest Drive.

The advisory has been issued due to main line leak. Following such an event, the potential exists for bacteriological contamination of the water supply therefore the boil water advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure. Until further notice, boil all water used for drinking and cooking, bringing the water to a rolling boil for three minutes before using.

This advisory will remain in effect until the situation has been corrected and test results have shown the water to be of an acceptable quality.

Full-time undergraduate students with a semester grade-point average of 3.4 to 3.79 are named to the Dean's List. Students with a GPA of 3.8 to 4.0 are named to the President's List. LWC Women defeat Cumberlands 79-68 in MSC action

The No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's basketball team picked up a 79-68 Mid-South Conference victory over (RV) Cumberlands (KY) Saturday at Biggers Sports Center.

The Blue Raiders (16-3, 5-1 MSC) were led by Maleigha Oldham who scored a career-high 28 points while surpassing career-highs in field goals (10) and in made three-pointers with four. Lindsey Wilson had three other players reach double figures in the game. Jynea Harris recorded her third double-double of the season scoring 16 points while grabbing a career-high 13 rebounds. J'Nayah Hall scored 15 points while Reagan Turner her second double-double this season totaling 13 points with a career-high 11 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson shot 39.5 percent from the field while Cumberlands (15-4, 3-3 MSC) shot 48.2 percent. The Blue Raiders outrebounded the Patriots 45-34 and held a 32-26 advantage in points in the paint.

Morning guest at Town Creek - Great Blue Heron

Right before the rain started, on this misty Saturday morning, a great Blue Heron swept past my window to the little Town Creek that flows through the yard.

He landed and marched to the pool that forms around the root formations under the ancient Catalpa tree, the giving tree, that has leaned a little closer to the bank on the opposite side of the creek while serving as a play place for the children and pets of East Fortune Street over the last half century.

He posed, quiet and still for a moment as he scanned the pool. Then he began a slow walk up the creek toward John and Missy Arnold's fence, gazing around as he moved ever so lightly.

Dale Gibson, 69, Metcalfe County, KY (1950-2020)

Danny Dale Gibson, age 69, of Edmonton passed away Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30pmCT Sunday at Butler Funeral Home in Edmonton with burial in the Beaumont Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-8 Saturday and after 9 Sunday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be held at 6pmCT Saturday evening at the funeral home.

Michael Stephen Dunlap, 64, Campbellsville, KY (1955-2020)

Michael Stephen Dunlap of Campbellsville passed away Thursday, January 16th, at Nortons Hospital, Louisville, KY. He was 64 years old.

A religious service will be held at 1pmCT on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at H.E. Pruitt Memory Chapel, 202 N. Main St., Jamestown, KY, with Bro. Gary Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Rexroat Cemetery Jamestown, KY.

Friends may visit on Tuesday at 11amCT. at H. E. Pruitt Memory Chapel.

LWC Basketball to host Cumberlands today

The men's basketball team (receiving votes in national poll) and women's basketball team (ranked No. 12 in national poll) continue conference play this afternoon at Biggers Sports Center facing Cumberlands (Ky.) beginning at 2pmCT with the women's matchup followed by the men's matchup at 4 p.m. CT.

The Blue Raiders women's basketball team (15-3, 4-1 MSC) had no problem against Pikeville (Ky.), defeating the Bears 79-52 on Jan. 11. Reagan Turner led the way in scoring with 22 points, as DeAsia Outlaw stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, 14 rebounds, four steals, and three blocks.

Michael Waltrip waving the green flag on sports betting in KY

Two-time Daytona 500 winner Michael Waltrip is hitting the gas pedal on the effort to legalize sports betting in Kentucky. The Kentucky native and NASCAR star has endorsed the effort in a radio ad by Sports Betting Now, a political group working to help build public support for sports betting legislation.
