If you believe...

Christmas starts early in Germany. On the night of December 5th-6th, Nikolaustag, St. Nicholas Day, children leave their shoes or boots outside the front door. That night, Santa Claus, Nikolaus, visits and fills them with chocolates, oranges and nuts if they've been good.

The International Student Programs is inviting all international students to stop by the ISP house and take a look in their country's stocking. "He sees you when you're sleeping..."

Gov. Bevin signs executive order prohibiting pension spiking

By Nicole Burton

Frankfort, KY - Gov. Matt Bevin signed an executive order today to ensure continuation of a good-government Bevin Administration policy that prohibits former legislators appointed to executive or judicial branch positions from potentially doubling or tripling their pension payout by engaging in a practice known as "pension spiking."

Members of the Kentucky General Assembly who began participation in the Legislators' Retirement Plan prior to January 1, 2014, are entitled to a defined benefit pension. The final pension payout for this plan is calculated using a formula based on the individual's years of service in the legislature, multiplied by the average salary for the three highest years of salary (known as the "high three"), and then multiplied by a percentage called a benefit factor.

Frankfort, KY - The holiday season can be a dreaded time for families who have lost someone dear to them, especially those who died in the line of duty. A simple item or symbol can remind a family member or friend of a special memory during the holidays. This year, the Kentucky State Police received 37 holiday wreaths, in remembrance of the fallen troopers and officers within the agency who lost their lives serving the Commonwealth.

Donated by The Fallen Heroes Wreath Program, the purpose is to honor the sacrifice made by law enforcement officers who were killed in the line of duty, by placing wreaths on their final resting places during the holiday season.

Letter: Info on Burkesville St. cave entrance

Lynn Johnson writes:
I see this was only found in the last two years.

My mother (Frances Cundiff Johnson) grew up in the house above this, I believe. She told me of the "spring house" where they kept the milk and cream and butter in cool water flowing out of a spring. If this is the same spot, I saw it as a dark scary hold in the slope pre 1960 while the Pete Walker family lived there and I was only 4 to 6 years old. Pete's wife Edith Cundiff Walker was my mother's sister and grew up in the house when owned by Victoria Hughes Cundiff's father, E.E. Hughes, who was part owner of the Bank of Columbia.) Her daughter is living in Washington D.C. as Victoria Walker Smith and may have more information. --Lynn Johnson

This is the first time that CU has found themselves at the top spot in the NAIA poll since the 2015-16 season when they opened the season at No. 1 and also climbed back up to the top spot twice in January of that season. That team finished 27-8 and made a trip to the NAIA Tournament quarterfinals as they were led by a then senior Lindsey Burd who led the team with a 17.2 points per game average while grabbing 8.8 rebounds per game.
