Burn ban lifted

Rain is expected to move in to the area this afternoon/evening, so, effective 6pmCT on October 11, 2019, the Burn Ban that has been in place in Adair County will be lifted. Please keep in mind we are still under the fall burn ban set in place by the Division of Forestry and open burning is still prohibited from 6amCT- 6pmCT within 150' of any woodland or brush land, pursuant to KRS 149.400.

We will continue to watch the drought monitors and if the situation worsens, we may be required to put the ban back in place. Please be mindful of winds and your surroundings if you plan to burn anything outside.

LWC Men's and Women's Swimming host Asbury Friday

The Lindsey Wilson College men's and women's swimming teams host Asbury (KY) on Friday, October 11, 2019, at 5pmCT in the Holloway Center Natatorium, Holloway Health & Wellness Center, 399 Williams St., Columbia, KY.

Lindsey Wilson is back in the pool after competing against Mid-South Conference opponent Cumberlands (KY) last Saturday.

LWC Soccer faces Pikeville at home tonight

Eunice Montgomery Wright, 84, Campbellsville, KY (1935-2019)

Mrs. Eunice Montgomery Wright of Campbellsville departed this life on October 8, 2019. She was 84 years of age.

The funeral services for Mrs. Eunice Wright will be conducted at 1pmET on Monday, October 14, 2019, at Auberry - Gupton & Chandler Funeral Home, 503 East Main St., Campbellsville, KY, with entombment at Campbellsville Memorial Gardens. Bro. Clifton Cowan will be officiating.

Visitation is requested after 10amET on Monday until the time of the service at Auberry - Gupton & Chandler Funeral Home.

CPD: Arrest for possession of methamphetamine

Officers with The Columbia Police arrested a party on Thurdsay, October 10, 2019, at around 9pmCT, in connection with a drug investigation which began on October 6, 2019.

Alexandria Foster, 25, of Columbia was taken into custody from her residence on Burksville Street and faces one charge of possession of methamphetamine 1st offense; a class D felony.

LWC Volleyball defeats Pikeville in three-sets

The No. 13-ranked Lindsey Wilson volleyball team defeated Pikeville (Ky.) in a three-set Mid-South Conference battle on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

Freshman Kasia Niderla led the Blue Raiders with 15 kills, which marks the 13th straight match she's lead the way for Lindsey Wilson. Sophomore Autumn Proctor tallied a team high 21 assists, while sophomore Lauren Larzelere managed 16 digs on the defensive side for Lindsey Wilson.

William M. (Bill) Ballou, 83, Columbia, KY (1939-2019)

Bill Ballou was a former Adair County Sheriff and Adair Circuit Court Clerk for 28 years, and a farmer. He attended the Egypt Christian Church and was a member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #96.

William M. "Bill" Ballou, 83 passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019 at his home after several months illness.

Mr. Ballou chose cremation and no services are scheduled at this time.

Martha Asberry, 79, Burkesville, KY (1940-2019)

Mrs. Martha Maylene Vincent Asberry of Burkesville, Kentucky passed away Monday, October 7, 2019, at The Medical Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky, having attained the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 17 days.

The Funeral service will be conducted on Sunday, October 13, 2019, at 3pmCT at Branham Grove Baptist Church, 3096 Modoc Rd, Burkesville, Kentucky.

The family will receive friends after 2pmCT on Saturday, October 12, 2019, and after 1pmCT at the church on Sunday.

NTSB releases report on Lincoln County pipeline explosion

The area where a natural gas pipeline exploded in Lincoln County in August had not been designated by the company operating the pipeline as an area where a release of natural gas could have high consequences for people's safety or for the environment, according to a preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board.

The pipeline rupture, which occurred about 35 miles southwest of Lexington near Danville, killed one woman and sent six other people to the hospital. The NTSB said in its initial report, released Tuesday, that its investigation is ongoing.

Mostly cloudy, high 79, chance of weekend frost

It's currently 66F at the Adair County Mesonet station. It will be mostly cloudy today, with a high near 79F and south wind 6 to 13 mph, gusting as high as 23 mph.

Tonight will bring a chance of showers, with an overnight low around 44.f South wind 8 to 11 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Saturday

The rains should clear by Saturday morning, leaving mostly cloudy skies through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 60F. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph.

Saturday night will be mostly clear and colder, with a low around 36F and calm wind.

Patchy frost is possible on Sunday morning. Otherwise, we should have sunny skies, with a high near 68F. Calm wind becoming southwest 5 to 8 mph in the afternoon.

Planning & Zoning cites law on Mayor's vote, wins reversal

Mayor Pamela Hoots said that after Monday night's October 2019 City Council meeting, she received calls the next morning challenging her legal right to vote on the Planning and Zoning tie. She declined to say who the callers were but said she sent the information to the City Attorney for review and a final decision.

The vote in question: Columbia City Council meeting - October Report

The City Attorney reviewed all the information and read the law to mean the Mayor actually had not had the right to cast a vote in this particular instance and therefore the P&Z recommendation stands, meaning the lot in question can only be used as residential.
