Margaret Ann Sanders Giles, Adair County, KY (1936-2018)

June 16, 1936 ~ July 12, 2018 (Age 82)
Her warm, infectious smile brightened the way of all along her way. She a devout follower of Jesus Christ, a member of Tabernacle Christian Church. She was retired from the Department for Social Services as a Service Aide. She was the member of an outstanding Adair County, KY, family. She was the daughter of the late Audy & Annie Campbell Sanders. Her husband, Nathan Giles, survives. She leaves 27 living descendants.

A reminder that following a very successful opening performance of Smoke on the Mountain in the renovated barn at Homeplace, a second play, Shakespeare's comedy, The Two Gentlemen of Verona will play July 21.

As before the first play, there will be a fish dinner before the performance on the 21st. The fish also received a very high rating.

GO Ministries continues mission tradition in Dominican Republic

Lindsey Wilson College students and alumni have taken a trip to the Dominican Republic to work alongside GO Ministries for the last several years, under the leadership of LWC Assistant Professor of Religion David Calhoun and his wife, Kim. Group helped with Vacation Bible School, a Celebrate Recovery center, and visited multiple communities. The annual trip to the Dominican Republic has a long-lasting impact on all the students and alumni who are able to experience it and the group members are grateful for all of their sponsors and partners that make the trip possible.

James Blaine McWhorter, 57, Russell Co., KY (1960-2018)

He was Vice President of Operations at Tellico Services. He was a native of Clinton County, KY, a former resident of Russell County, KY, and was living in Knox County, TN at the time of his death there. He was a member of a respected Russell County, KY family with many close relatives in Russell County and elsewhere to carry on his legacy. His final resting place will be in Rogers Cemetery in Russell County, KY.

KSP Post 4 investigating officer involved shooting in Hardin Co.

Hardin County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a person identified to have several felony warrants, but subject attempted to flee. A single gunshot was discharged in the process, which struck the subject. A short pursuit ensued, at the end of which the fugitive was taken into custody and transported to UL Hospital for treatment of injuries.
Note - A charge is merely an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a subsequent court of law.

Kentucky State Police Post 4, Elizabethtown, KY

ELIZABETHTOWN, KY - (13 Jul 2018) - The Kentucky State Police (KSP) investigates an officer involved shooting in Hardin County.

On July 12, 2018 at approximately 5:45pmET, KSP Post 4 received a request from the Hardin County Sheriff's Office to investigate an officer involved shooting that had occurred on Mountain View Estates Road in Hardin County. The preliminary investigation revealed that a Hardin County Deputy Sheriff had initiated a traffic stop on a subject identified to have several felony warrants.

As the deputy attempted to take the suspect into custody, he refused, and attempted to flee in the vehicle he was operating.

A single gunshot was discharged in the process, striking the subject.

A short pursuit ensued, ending on Lower Colesburg Road.

The subject was later taken into custody and transported to University of Louisville Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

The case is still under investigation by KSP Post 4 investigators.

Shots for all: Hep A recommended for All. Two cases in Adair

The recommendation that everyone have a Hepatitis A vaccine was made by Rhonda Akin, RN, at the Adair County WATCH Coalition meeting Thursday, July 12, 2018. In her position as nursing supervisor at the Adair County Health Department, she sees the need up close.

Hep A is known as a highly contagious liver infection, one of several types of hepatitis viruses that can affect the liver's ability to function. She said that with the two known cases reported - and addressed - in the county, one at Anderson's Pizza and one at the Adair County Regional Jail, it is very important to get everyone protected.

Cathy Martin brought a bit of the HGTV hit show FIXER UPPER home to Columbia by way of her photo journal describing a day in Waco, TX with husband David "JJ" Martin.

Her note, "My favorite TV show! ...going to miss it so much!" will strike a cord in many of us who agree with Cathy that Chip and Joanna Gaines' retirement from their famous television show will cause some grieving, even though we absolutely support their decision to put family first.

FRANKFORT, KY - New legislation modernizing laws for nonprofits, House Bill 443 (HB 443), goes into effect Saturday. HB 443 makes necessary clarifications and provides statutory flexibility to the laws governing nonprofit organizations in the Commonwealth.

The bill, sponsored by Representative Robert Benvenuti of Lexington, passed unanimously in both chambers of the Kentucky General Assembly and was signed into law by Governor Matt Bevin on April 26.
