Scenic Adair County, KY - Beautiful tree tunnel farm entrance

2018-06-15 - Along a South Central Kentucky byway - Photo by Ed Waggener.
A busy farm lane is reminiscent of the days when, out of necessity the land and nature was more highly valued than machines, when a few scratches on the sides of farm trucks and on the tops of mail and other delivery trucks were seen as badges of honor, like Heidelberg dueling scars, which meant at the family farm was a working, not a gentrified hobby. Over the years, earnest, sincere farmers have emulated the hobby farmers to the point that roadsides are poisoned by the (lower case) state to the long time expense of the landowners. It's especially dangerous in today's age. But alas, save memories of Rachel Carson and persistent reminders by Joyce Coomer, degradation of the country side continues, at a terrible economic price. - EW
