Carol Perkins: Swearing off the Happiest Place on Earth

A visit to Disney World was a killer.
The next earlier column: Carol Perkins: Life lesson - it's not the seat, it's the principle

By Carol Perkins

Somewhere inside, I found the strength. The courage. The stamina. Deep in the bottom of my soul, I knew I had to carry on, move forward, and forge ahead. It occurred to me as I was in the middle of Disney's Animal Kingdom with not a dry thread on my body or a dry hair on my head that a stroke was possible. "Your face is red," Guy said. "I think I might explode," I replied. Even with a wet towel around the back of my neck, I had never felt so miserable. What I thought would hinder me (my knee) didn't bother me, thanks to a shot before I left, but the heat nearly "did me in."

BJF Thinks slow implementation of speed changes is working

Billy Joe Fudge agrees the state regulations requiring a one-at-a-time approach: I think one size fits all government regulations have been and continue to be an impediment to efficient and effective governance. - BJF

By Billy Joe Fudge
Personal opinion of the writer

I am a believer in government of, by and for the people. Don't know the applicability of that Constitutional norm in this case but I thought it sounded "wisdomic" this early morning. And no, it is not in the dictionary but all the scholars at the Great Wooded South University are seeking support in our effort to put together a petition encouraging its inclusion in the Oxford Dictionary.

Thanks, Joyce Coomer for noting one of the advantages of working in Downtown Columbia. Next time though, you need to send a picture for proof. Readers of CM can be persnickety about such oversights. Adair Co. Fiscal Court 12 Jun 2018 - Two more slow county roads

Headscratcher: One road gets a reduction from 55mph to 25mph, another from 55mph to 35mph. You may wonder why. Is it because the state requires the irrational system of changing speed limits one road at a time? It's a confusing solution to a confusing problem. Comments?

By Ed Waggener

The Adair County Fiscal Court approved first readings for two more slower, safer roads last night: The court unanimously approved first readings reducing the speed limit on New Hope Church Road in District 1 from 55 mph to 20 mph.

. In a separate action, the court approved reducing the speed limit on Buell Collins Road from 55 mph to 25 mph.

Sycamore Springs: On trapping and releasing rascally raccoons

Catching and releasing may just be relocating your own problem onto someone else - author has had issue with this problem at Sycamore Springs.

One main drawback to live trap and release is - you are usually just relocating your problem on to someone else!

My farm sits a half mile off the road, and more than once I have stopped some kind hearted soul who live trapped their ring tailed problem, and was about to release it to what they thought was an underpopulated area.
