ACHS grad '62 so proud of ACHS Future Problem Solvers

Virginia Sparks Wonderling writes:
I am a Gradyville native and graduated from Adair County high school in 1962. I live in La Crosse Wisconsin and had the good fortune to attend the opening flag ceremony for the Future Problem Solvers. There were 1800 students and many adult coaches/teachers in attendance. I felt very proud and extremely impressed to know that MY high school in Kentucky was participating in this International event. I must tell you, this was a HUGE event. This tells me much about the teachers, staff, board members, superintendent and others connected with Adair County schools: Academics is important! Your teachers have prepared the students to participate in this international event and, I know, the students have worked really hard and deserve much credit. Let's all applaud these students and Brett Reliford, the coach /teacher, and support them with our finances next year when they start to raise money for the next event. - Virginia Sparks Wonderling

Poetry by Robert Stone: How often we unwise, a sonnet

How often we unwise: a sonnet reflecting on Pinocchio
A sonnet by Robert Stone
Creator’s creatures seem embedded fast
within the elements from which they grew
so they must wonder if their lives will last
beyond the ignorance they have come through.

Impressions place us where we would not be
too high, too low, too ugly, just too much
so do our noses hide sweet freedom’s key
revealing faults and failures and more such.

Do others see our nose now long with lies
or is that something we imagine well
because we see how often we unwise
have chosen what had not the sweeter smell.

Pinocchio was fashioned with desire

to come alive though that meant facing fire.

Letter: Raccoon troubles. What to do?

Click on headline for story with research and two YouTube videos.

Pam Kermeen writes:
There is a large raccoon hanging around our house. It has torn/ripped a large gaping hole in the bottom of our trash can. Fortunately though, he couldn't get the lid off. Tonight he was at the side door trying to chew on my straw broom. I soaked the broom with ammonia and it didn't phase him. He's still trying to drag the broom off the deck.

I'm afraid to go outside after dark now. I need help! - Pam Kermeen
Be careful! You are dealing with a smart animal - Hope you have photographic evidence that you are dealing with a raccoon and not a bear. We found two YouTube videos - the first one involving a failed garbage can set up as a booby trap in a National Geographic experiment to keep raccoons out of garbage cans. It follows:
