If I am not able to do anything about the length of my life, I can do something about its breadth and depth," Dr. E. Bruce Heilman, 92, chancellor at the University of Richmond in Virginia told Campbellsville University graduates in his commencement address Saturday, May 12.

Thelma Jean Sinclair, 84, Adair County, KY (1934-2018)

She was retired from the Adair County School System, working last in the lunchroom at John Adair Middle School. She was a member of Freedom Separate Baptist Church. She was the widow of the late Leslie Sinclair, Jr., who prececded her in death on November 14, 2014. She was the matriarch of a highly respected East Adair County family. She leaves five direct living descendants.

KY 61, in Adair/Cumberland/Metcalfe to get 'Cape Seal' paving

Paving to begin next week on KY 61 in Adair, Cumberland and Metcalfe Counties. Expect one lane work zones. Cape seal is a preventive maintenance process aimed at extending the life of aging pavement by applying a chip seal followed by a thin asphalt overlay. Process extends life of road at much lower cost.

FRANKFORT, KY (Tue 15 May 2018) - The state has established an innovative new registered apprenticeship pilot program aimed at strengthening social services careers throughout Kentucky.

Labor Secretary Derrick Ramsey, Health and Family Services Acting Secretary Scott Brinkman and several other officials joined Gov. Matt Bevin Tuesday to launch the program, which will provide increased opportunities for individuals pursuing a social services career in state government, according to a state news release.

Raymond Rooks, 74, Adair Co., KY native (1944-2018)

He was born in Adair County, KY, and his final resting place will be here. He was retired from David R. Webb in Edinburgh, IN where he worked in the maintenance department. He was the son of the late Delmer and Flossie Burton Rooks. He leaves a host of relatives, both in the Edinburg area of Indiana and in Adair County, KY, including two sons, Mitchell and Mark Rooks and two daughters Sharon Hamlett and Anissia Russell, of Columbia, KY.

James C. Holt, Adair County native, (1962-2018)

He was a sewer technician for Macon Water Authority and a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was a member of a highly respected Adair County, KY family, the son of the late Jess & Lyda McGaha Holt. His wife, Rhonda Holt, survives. He leaves three direct and one step living descendants and brothers and sisters and other close relatives in this area of Kentucky and elsewhere.

Mary Virginia (Margaret) Perkins, 90, Knifley, KY (1928-2018)

Mrs. Perkins was a member of the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, and a member of the Cane Valley Homemakers Club. She enjoyed golfing, fishing and flower gardening. She was the matriarch of highly regarded Adair County family, the daughter of the late Rufus and Virgie Grant Dulworth. Her husband of almost three-quarters of a century, Warren H.(Buck) Perkins, survives. She leaves seven direct living descendants.

Busy month for business growth in Columbia/Adair Co. - EDA

From Tueday morning regular meeting of Columbia-Adair Co. Economic Development meeting:
  • New prospect now negotiating with Columbia/Adair County who could bring starting 150 jobs, with potential for 300.
  • Large scale greenhouse operation looking at Adair; County Agent Nick Roy brought lead, which is being aggressively followed up on by EDA leadership, now evaluating possible locations of at least 50 acres, 32 acres of which would be under glass. Company produces organic veggies.
  • Site development by Pyles Excavating for prestigious Wayne Supply outlet already underway at Holladay Place
  • EDA is looking for grant to hire another PT or FT EDA employee
  • Huge potential for plant sites developing at intersection of KY 61 South and Veterans Bypass.
  • EDA Chairman Mark Dykes, who presided at the meeting, said that overall, Columbia and Adair County are being looked at seriously by potential employers, there is movement, and he feels the economy is looking up

COLUMBIA, KY - (Tue 15 May 2018) - Columbia/Adair County Economic Development Authority Chairman Mark Dykes said that it had been a busy month since the last meeting with several key meetings, conference calls and conversations concerning project development now and for future economic health of Columbia and Adair County.

One project under discussion, with the largest potential - no names - but it is in the manufacturing area - could employ 150 people to start with, growth potential up to 300 jobs.
