Luther Martin, Argyle, Casey Co, KY (1923-2018)

Luther He was a sawmill operator and a member of Brush Creek Pentecostal Church. He was the patriarch of a very large respected Casey County family. He was the son of the late Solomon and flossie gentian Martin and the widower of Ida Pearl Poff Martin. He leaves 81 direct living descendants spanning four generations.

J. C. Froedge, 83, Adair County, KY (1934-2018)

He was a native of Adair County, born August 18, 1934. He was the son of the late Will McKinley and Pearl Lee Parson Froedge. His wife,m Dora Allene Garrison Froedge, survives. He leaves 10 direct living descendants. In his career he was a logger, retired at the time of his death. .

Randy Burns letter tells why EDA resignation came late

Randy Burns had thought that letter of resignation was emailed, and in the excitement of settling in to a new job, was under the impression that it had been done. Joey White sends report of the last hours of Glenn Morrison, Jr.

Joey White details events leading up to the death of Glenn Morrison, Jr., issuing a poignant note of personal loss: "I'd like to say that Glenn Morrison JR was always respectful and would always joke and speak to you no matter where he was," Mr. White writes, adding,"In closing, the jail staff and I will greatly miss him and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

After being arrested he was sent to TJ Samson Hospital of Columbia where the doctor medically cleared him for incarceration.

Pursuit ends in crash, gunfire with suspect airlifted to UK/Lex

Pursuit follows report of suspicious vehicle on Lawson Bottom Road near Bakerton in Cumberland County and ends south of the Adair County line in northern Cumberland County. Gunshot victim listed in critical condition, KSP reports. Female passenger in fugitive vehicle taken into custody on outstanding warrants. No one else was hurt. KSP Critical Response team is investigating.

William Garlan Baker, 86, Adair County, KY (1932-2018)

He was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church, a retired welder for Fisher Body in Chicago, IL, and a farmer. He was a member of the Green River Kruzers Car Club and enjoyed woodworking and storytelling. He was a member of an outstanding family. He was the son of the late William Dewey and Iva May Keltner Baker. His wife, Doris Perkins Baker, survives. He leaves 11 direct living descendants.

Joyce Elaine Hatfield, 69, Casey County, KY (1948-2018)

Joyce was a retired hairdresser who is remembered to have loved to sing, read and spend time with her family. A native of Casey County, she was a daughter of the late Elmer Irvin and Violet Irene Randolph Wood.

CPD investigates death of Adair County Jail inmate

Columbia Police Investigate death of inmate at Adair County Jail who passed away at TJ Health of Columbia, after medical problem development after incarceration. Video of footage prior to arrest appears to indicate suspect had ingested something, possibly narcotics. He was transported to TJ Columbia for medical clearance prior to booking. After incarceration, cellmates called attention to problems, and inmate was taken back to TJ/C where he was later pronounced deceased, by Adair County Coroner Todd Adkin. A full report and toxicology are still pending and will be released to the Office of Adair County Coroner Todd Akin and Law Enforcement when completed by State Medical Examiner's office. By Ofc. Raiderview to Host Discussion on free speech in the media.

Raiderview, the student-run newspaper of Lindsey Wilson College, is sponsoring the first segment of the "Front and Central" discussion series. The open discussion will take place at 2pmCT, on Thursday, April 19, 2018, in the Hodge Center, 402 Helen Flatt Drive, Columbia, KY, on the LWC campus, involving local journalists and professors in politics and journalism from LWC.

According to Cody Maggard, Raiderview Editor, the purpose of the discussion is to talk about the current climate regarding the view of media in the "fake news" era of journalism. The ultimate goal of the event is to shed light on the role of journalism in the changing world of media coverage. The event is free to attend, and will include a question and answer section from the audience. The public is encouraged to attend.

Brooks Milby, Green County, KY (1932-2018)

He was a beloved citizen of Green County, KY, whose life touched so many who knew him. He had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member and a Deacon of the Brush Creek Baptist Church. He was a farmer and a retired employee of the Green County School System having worked as a School Bus Driver for 35 years. He was the son of the late Oscar Milby and Gracie Skaggs Milby. His wife of 66 years, Geneva Maxine Milby Milby, survives. He leaves 17 direct living descendants.

London, KY cardiologist sentencing set for 14 Aug 2018

Cardiologist convicted of health care fraud for medically unnecessary pacemakers. Defendant is currently scheduled to be sentenced on August 14, 2018 in London, Kentucky, by U.S. District Court Judge Gregory F. Van Tatenhove. He faces a maximum of 10 years imprisonment.

LONDON, Ky. - On April 11, 2018, a federal jury convicted London physician Dr. Anis Chalhoub of health care fraud. The jury returned its guilty verdict after twelve days of trial, during which it heard evidence that Dr. Chalhoub defrauded Medicare, Medicaid, and other insurers by implanting medically unnecessary pacemakers in his patients and causing the unnecessary procedures and follow-up care to be billed to health insurance programs.

KSP Post 15 to conduct safety traffic checkpoints

Law enforcement will concentrate on areas with high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting n injury and/or death

COLUMBIA, KY (Mon 16 Apr, 2018) – Kentucky State Police, Post 15 will be conducting safety traffic checkpoints in the Post 15 area, which includes Washington, Marion, Taylor, Green, Casey, Russell, Adair, Metcalfe, Monroe, Clinton and Cumberland. Troopers will be checking for impaired drivers, children that are not properly restrained in child safety seats and informing the public about the use of seatbelts. These safety checkpoints will be conducted in various locations throughout the Post 15 area that are experiencing a high ratio of vehicular crashes resulting in injury and/or death compared to relatively low safety restraint usage ratio.

Diane Wallace: Has seen Indigo Bunting only 3 times in KY

There were quite a few in Upstate New York, near Audubon Bird Sanctuary in Ithaca, NY where she lived prior to moving to Gradyville.

It's already been told, as usual...I'm late...but yes, this is definitely an Indigo Bunting and a fine specimen as well. I have seen them only three times in Kentucky. Twice in Clay County, KY and one time in Gradyville, Adair County. However...up north, that is in Upstate New York...I've seen quite a few. Having lived close to Audubon Bird Sanctuary (Ithaca NY), I became quite familiar with these and many other birds! --Diane Wallace

I have to take a little credit for Mary Keen being such a great teacher. One afternoon in my geometry class Mary asked if she could teach the class the next day. Of course I said she could! She did a wonderful job of going over that day's assignment and answering other students' questions.
