The 2018 Farm, Home & Garden Expo, March 17, 2018, at the Adair County Elementary School, enjoyed a better than usual crowd even with fewer vendors this time. The weather was perfect for thinking about planting and growing.

The annual event is presented by the Adair County Extension Council. A new activity this year was the Cupcake Wars. Just after noon Tony Rose, Adair County Agent for Youth and 4-H, announced the winners:

Maggie Juanita Calhoun, 69, Campbellsville, KY (1948-2018)

She professed faith in Christ and was of the Church of God faith. In her pastime she loved playing cards and bingo and spending time with her family and friends. She was a native of Taylor County, KY, the daughter of the late Otha Dewey Hughes & Eliza Stanton Hughes. She was a member of a very large, respected family, numbering 16. With her passing, two siblings survive. Her final resting place will be at Feathersburg, Adair County, KY.

Rally against SB 1 at Historic AC Courthouse Thu 22 Mar 2018

There will be a rally against Senate Bill 1, on the Jamestown Street front of the historic Adair County Courthouse, 500 Public Square, on Thursday, March 22, 2018 from 3pm-6pmCT. Organizers are requesting all employees affected by SB1 and their pension issues to attend this rally and to wear Red, and to bring signs to support need to say "No" to Senate Bill 1. The Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee has spent several days and some late nights working on the Senate's budget proposal, which we expect to go before the committee soon.

Freddie Wade Wilson, 75, Edmonton, KY (1942-2018)

He was a lumber stacker. He was the patriarch of a respected family with strong ties in Barren, Metcalfe, and Monroe counties of South Central Kentucky and elsewhere. He the son of the late Mose Thomas & Enna Belle Walker Wilson. His wife, Mary Nell Fletcher Wilson, survives. He leaves four direct living descendants. He was a native of Monroe County, KY, and a resident of Metcalfe, KY, at the time of his death in Warren County, KY.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a homemaker. She was the daughter of the late Eugene Murray Spear & Julia Margaret Plummer Spear. Her husband of 58 years, Ross Whitehouse, survives. She leaves 36 direct living descendants.

Frankfort, KY (16 Mar 2018) - The Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) has fined Louisville Gas and Electric Co. (LG&E) $395,000 for a series of violations that led to the September 2014 rupture of a high-pressure natural gas pipeline in Goshen, Oldham County.

Gov. Bevin orders flags to half staff for fallen Pikeville policeman

KRS 2.041 grants the Governor authority to issue a proclamation calling upon state officials to display U.S. flags at half-staff on all buildings, for not less than one day, in the event of the death of Kentucky emergency response personnel in the line of duty.

"I am grateful for the men and women who lay their lives on the line to protect our communities every day and every night," said Gov. Bevin. "Please pray for God’s grace and healing for the community of Pikeville, the local and state police officers involved, and the family of Officer Hamilton."

Copley Clark Slinker, Green County, KY (1923-2018)

He had made a profession of faith in Christ, was a member of the Little Barren Separate Baptist Church, and was a lifelong farmer. Mr. Slinker was a WWII Veteran having served in the United States Army as a Medical Technician with the 609th Medical Clearing Company. He served overseas for 21 months in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was the son of the late Donald Claude Slinker & Audrey Clark Slinker. He was the patriarch of a remarkable family; his wife of 75 years, Dora Vaughn Slinker, survives. He leaves 33 direct living descendants.
