'Boots: Blue Star Dog' reminds Robert Stone of 'Rilla' book Robert Stone writes: I have just seen this story (Blue Star Dog of World War II) for the first time. It made me think of the Anne of Green Gables book that tells of life in rural Canada in World War I, "Rilla of Ingleside." Anne's son goes off to France and his dog waits for him at the train station where he last saw him. In Anne's story this son came home to a joyful dog but his younger brother, a poet, was killed in France. - Robert StoneThank you, Robert Stone Hope this note gets more people to the library to check out "Rilla of Ingleside." Mrs. Marcum would have appreciated the comparison of the work L.M. Montgomery. Just re-read Mrs. Marcum's "Blue Star Dog of World War II." It's one of the world's great dog stories, which remains tearfully poignant today - especially today - with an ending we never forget: "The news about Boots death was so difficult for Momma. It was almost like she was experiencing Russell's death all over again. Momma grieved for weeks, especially in the afternoons at the times when she had been used to seeing Boots at his post, waiting for her son, a special boy, who had brought her so much joy with his happy, fun loving ways.- GENIECE MARCUM" - ED WAGGENER 2017-10-19 06:54:30 | Comments | Printable version
