'Boots: Blue Star Dog' reminds Robert Stone of 'Rilla' book

Robert Stone writes:
I have just seen this story (Blue Star Dog of World War II) for the first time. It made me think of the Anne of Green Gables book that tells of life in rural Canada in World War I, "Rilla of Ingleside." Anne's son goes off to France and his dog waits for him at the train station where he last saw him. In Anne's story this son came home to a joyful dog but his younger brother, a poet, was killed in France. - Robert Stone
Thank you, Robert Stone Hope this note gets more people to the library to check out "Rilla of Ingleside." Mrs. Marcum would have appreciated the comparison of the work L.M. Montgomery. Just re-read Mrs. Marcum's "Blue Star Dog of World War II." It's one of the world's great dog stories, which remains tearfully poignant today - especially today - with an ending we never forget: "The news about Boots death was so difficult for Momma. It was almost like she was experiencing Russell's death all over again. Momma grieved for weeks, especially in the afternoons at the times when she had been used to seeing Boots at his post, waiting for her son, a special boy, who had brought her so much joy with his happy, fun loving ways.- GENIECE MARCUM" - ED WAGGENER

Today, THURSDAY with CM - 19 Oct 2017

Haiku by Robert Stone for October 19, 2017:
Some visits are fun
but being among strangers
makes fear more likely.
--Robert Stone, Thursday, 19 October 2017.
-1000 haiku twice now, now on to more days, Day 2228

Today: For the Record:
Debbie Selby, Chair of Treats on the Town, is excited about the extraordinarily high interest in Treats on the Town this year. The number of booths committed to provide booths are 25, surpassing last year's total of 22. May not ready for the World Record Book of Guinnesses, but already it's not to early to celebrate. This on the heels of the fabulously successful Downtown Days is making this a wonderful time to stay in Columbia, till at least after New Year's Day. Why would anybody want to be any place else than South Central Kentucky in October? - EW
For those who have not yet reserved a spot, here's a reminder: Reminder to register for C/AC Chamber Treats on the Town Details
