The Columbia Pedestrian Safety Committee has been hard at work to improve safety for pedestrians in Columbia, KY. A recent meeting with Troy Hearn, State Coordinator for Bicycle and Pedestrian Programs and Planning with the Department of Transportation, provided much insight on the safety issues Columbia faces.

Wing being added onto historic Adair Courthouse in the 70s

2017-09-19 - Public Square, Columbia, KY - Photo file photo from archives.
Over the years, as space was needed, two wings were added onto the historic Adair County Courthouse, changing the look and the yard space around the building. The wing being built in this photo faces Campbellsville Street. Preservationists discuss ways to safely remove the wings and return the building to its pre-1970s state. There are questions about the stability of the walls if the entire wings are removed. There has also been discussion of turning the wings into open-air porches for community use.

Traffic will be slowed on Columbia square Wednesday morning

Wednesday, 20 Sept 2017 Traffic alert

Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Two things are happening that will slow traffic in downtown Columbia and might encourage people in a rush to use the Veterans Bypass.
  • Students from LWC on their Malvina Farkle day of service will join the Sidewalk Ped/Safe group and other volunteers for cleaning around the courthouse lawn.
  • Dense fog may develop Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, according to Adair County Emergency Services, spreading across portions of southern Indiana and central Kentucky which could impact the morning commute.
Recent rainfall, clear skies, and light winds could lead to patchy to areas of dense fog, especially across favored sheltered areas and bodies of water. Use caution traveling tonight. - LW

Re: Mary Anne Loy's comment about painting the crosswalk strips at the Columbia UMC . . .

Joyce Coomer writes
"We the people" are the ultimate owners of any and all property deemed government property. Our hard work and tax dollars pay for ALL government property so we should have more than a cursory say so in how things are done and treated. If Mary Anne wishes to paint the crosswalk, I'll act as crossing guard while she paints. Joyce M. Coomer

If carbs matter, check out Maury's bread alternative

Maury Lewis says you can add herbs to her food discovery, Cloud Bread:
Linda, have you tried to make cloud bread? Made with 4 room temp. egg yolks beaten with 2oz cream cheese, pinch of salt and one packet of stevia.

Beat the 4 room temp. whites till stiff with 1/2 tsp. cream of tarter.

Fold yolks into whites and scoop out 1/2 cup clouds onto parchment paper on cookie sheets and bake 20 minutes in a 350 preheated oven. One carb per cloud. --Maury Lewis

Maury, I've never heard of Cloud Bread and thank you for sharing the recipe! Speaking from the perspective of someone who loves it but is trying to get by without bread, this sounds incredi'breadable!! -- LW
