Arnold Ray Pierce, Adair County, KY (1940-2017)

He was a former factory worker and was of the Baptist Faith. Arnold loved watching western movies and wrestling. He was a native of Columbia, KY. He was the son of the late Homer & Ella Jessie Pierce. He leaves 10 direct living descendants.

Arnold Ray Pierce, 73, the son of the late Homer & Ella Jessie Pierce, was born May 3, 1940 in Columbia, KY, and departed this life on Friday, August 25, 2017 in Campbellsville at the Taylor Regional Hospital. He was 77 years of age.

The funeral service for Arnold Ray Pierce will be conducted Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 12pmNoonCT/1pmET, in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home, 1765 New Columbia Road, Campbellsville with cremation to follow. Visitation after 10amCT/11amET, on Sunday at the funeral home.

The public is welcome at this peaceful spot in the well tended garden at Columbia's historic Trabue Russell House, 201 Jamestown Street, Columbia, KY. Sounds of butterfly wings, birds and the occasional car going up the hill added to the experience of this place on a Saturday afternoon, August 26, 2017. Evening will add cheering, soccer field lights and action on the adjoining Lindsey Wilson College campus. - LW

Mary Knight finds Oscar-winning weeders at work in our town

Substitute garden volunteer discovers downtown flowers need little maintenance on her day in the sun, with almost too little to do - but geraniums at the fountain did need deadheading.

Because Bill and Beth Coleman and Jeanne Marshburn were unable to work on Wednesday, the 23rd, their usual weeding day, I went in to the Square help to help out.

I found 21 weeds (total) in the 12 day lily beds around the Square. The stone areas around the trees in the four corners were weedless and debris-less.

Woody Gosser, 74, Russell County, KY (1943-2017)

He was a faithful member of Salem United Baptist Church. He taught Sunday School class served as church clerk for 39 years. He was an educator, supporting and representing teachers as the Kentucky Educational Association (KEA) Uniserv Director for the Middle Cumberland Region for over 37 years. He also enjoyed farming in his spare time. He was the son of the late Finis & Dorthy Popplewell Gosser. He devoted and loving wife, Alice Cooper Gosser, survives. He leaves five direct living desendants.

Woody Gosser, 74, of Russell Springs, KY, died Friday, August 25, 2017 at the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset, KY.

Funeral service for Woody Gosser will be 11amCT, Monday, August 28, 2017 at the Salem United Baptist Church, Russell Springs, KY, with Bro. Larold Gosser officiating. Visitation will be 4pm-8pmCT, Sunday, August 27, 2017, at the Bernard Funeral Home Chapel, 367 N Main Street, Russell Springs, KY, and after 8amCT Monday, at the funeral home. Interment in the Square Oak Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Wayne Gosser, John Gosser, Joe Gosser, Samuel Gosser, Kevin O'Dell, and Jorge Garcia. Special Music by the Salem Church Choir and congregation.

Columbia PD faced night of mayhem - arrest two suspects

Two are in Adair County Regional Jail facing numerous allegations after Columbia Police answer call that shots had been fired at large party on Tutt Street. One man arrested at scene. Second fled, stole police cruiser, which was wrecked one mile away, striking utility pole but was caught on Heartland Circle almost one hour later. Eight officers, including Chief Jason Cross, from CPD, Adair County Sheriff's Office and Adair County Constabulary, involved in operation.
Note: Charges/allegations are not a finding of guilt. An individual charged by law enforcement is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Columbia Police arrest 2 after responding to large party that resulted in shots being fired and police cruiser being stolen and wrecked.

At 1:01amCT this morning Adair County 911 received a report of a large party that an altercation had broke out at located in the 200 block of Tutt street in the limits of Columbia.
