Carol Perkins: Going on strict Tv news watching limit

Watches only morning local news and news at five; she still trusts WBKO to be unbiased. She's had enough of hate. She says, We can do better, but it will take the silent majority to say, Enough is enough.. No more violence, destruction, or bullying.
Next earlier column: Carol Perkins: Knocking off mirrors on SUV's

By Carol Perkins

If you're hoping for an uplifting piece this week, you'll have to forgive me. I'm disturbed and I think all of you are, too.

Other than WBKO, I have put a limit on my news watching. Like limiting kids with their electronics, I have done the same to myself. I am allowed to watch the morning local news and the news at five. I sometimes listen to David Muir, but have to remember what I hear may not be true. I trust WBKO to be unbiased.

Tobacco cutting time in Adair County

2017-08-23 - Adair County, KY - Photo by Linda Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c).
It's the week for tobacco cutting and housing. The familiar tobacco crop is dwindling in south central Kentucky. It's harder to find tobacco growing with the health warnings against smoking. Farmers are quickly replacing it with other crops, soybeans is in the lead.

Two bikes will be awarded at end of school year 2017-2018 semesters

Alice Curry writes:
ACES began this year's ACES HERO (Here Every day Ready & On-Time) attendance competition on August 23, 2017. Mrs. Debbie, Family Resource Center (FRC) director talked with students about the HERO board that is located in the gymnasium and how grade level and gender competitions will be held each week based on attendance from the previous week.

To add to the excitement, ACES also welcomed three members of the Casey Creek Lodge F & AM #536 who have generously donated two girl bicycles and two boy bicycles for attendance prizes.

Students with perfect attendance from August 23, through December 15, 2017, will be eligible to have their names put in a drawing for bikes that will be given away on December 15, 2017. Students with perfect attendance from January 2, 2018 through the end of the school year will also have a chance to win a bike that will be given away on the last day of school.

ACES would like to say "Thank You" to the Casey Creek Lodge F & AM #536 for the donation of these bicycles and for supporting school attendance for our children!

Dan Wilson, Russell County, KY: Monday a Day of Awe from Sky

Tens of thousands of people traveling east was amazing, too

Daniel G Wilson writes:
Reference to the split sunset, I observed the same thing on the Pennyrile Parkway traveling from Hopkinsville, KY. At that time, I was on the phone speaking with my mother in Russell Springs, KY and she made comment that she could see the same thing as well. Monday was a "Day of Awe" from the sky. For me, I saw a beautiful falling star en route to Hopkinsville just before the break of dawn, witnessing the eclipse of 100% totality for nearly 3 minutes and the split sunset. Although it wasn't in the sky, the tens of thousands of people traveling east was amazing. Daniel G. Wilson, Russell Springs, KY

Tamra Wilson, Miss Victoria & Girls witness split sunset

Click on headline for stunning Split Sunset during the Great Solar Eclipse Mon, 22 Aug 2017

Tamra Wilson writes:
For Monday's Eclipse, I traveled with my current clients from Hopkinsville, KY, to their home in Paris KY. Due to extreme traffic jams, we diverted from the expressways and took a back roads route. Wound up traveling through parts of Green County, where I looked to the west and saw something in the sky that I had never seen before.

I've also received information from Miss Vicky of Greater Bliss, Adair County, KY, that it was visible to her and her girls.

I'm just curious how far and wide this was visible, and if other people took note. I did a bit of research and found some information about this phenomenon: EPOD/Split Sunset
