How walkable is Columbia?

Troy Hearn, Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator with the Division of Planning, KY Transportation Cabinet, asked that question at a Columbia sidewalks meeting Thursday, July 13, 2017.

Epicurean Kentuckian: In search of the perfect pinto

2017-07-13 - Liberty Road General Store & Diner, 5097 Liberty Road, Vester, Columbia, KY - Photo by Ed Waggener, ColumbiaMagazine.com(c).
Won't say these are the best I've ever eaten, but I haven't had any to top these tonight at Patty's Liberty Road GS & D. The best thing was they were served to order: No more than half beans, more than half broth. And requested aftermarket option to microwave until the bowl could just be touched with a naked hand. Asked for onion slice cut in half. Asked for a hoecake. Asked for ketchup & Texas Pete to mix tableside. It came to order, and after fixing it up with half a shaker of black pepper, it was a meal to pray for for a first day in heaven. I've got my doubts about the hoecake being baked on a hoe over an open fire (as they were invented years ago), but a short cut can be indulged when they taste as good as these. Served with endless glasses of sweet CAUD tap water over ice and topped off with a new rage at Vester, White Chocolate Kit Kats. The meal couldn't have been better. (Linda paid). Still we'll keep on looking for the pluperfect pintos. A national dish of Adair County. - ED WAGGENER.

KY Afield Outdoors: KY fishing resources online

Information on Green River Lake at fw.ky.gov includes a link to Green River Lake fish attractors in Google Maps, as well as bass fishing assessments, tournament dates, and special fishing regulations.

By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, KY - Two employees of the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources recently used the department's website at fw.ky.gov to glean information on catching saugeye. They used the 5-foot contour maps on the "Find a Place to Fish" page to study the bottom of Guist Creek Lake in Shelby County and determine a place to fish. They later fished those areas and caught their first saugeye.

"We are trying to provide information on our website to make it easier for anglers to find places to fish and be successful," said Mike Hardin, assistant director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "The "Find a Place to Fish" page allows anglers to sort by county, city, waterbody, access type or even species of fish."

Thanks for clearing up the White Castle rumors, although I'd sure love to see that come to fruition here in Adair Co.!
