BJ Fudge comments on Patricia Trail/KY 61 intersection issue

Billy Joe Fudge writes:
I agree that there are presently safety concerns with entering and exiting at the Duo-County corner with 61/80 and I agree that the danger factor will be exacerbated by the increased traffic from the new Pinewood Shopping Center.

However, the unmarked intersection to which I was speaking is the Duo-County/Goodwill/Sleep Inn, four-way stop intersection. There are no centerline markings, no left turn/straight ahead/right turn demarcation lines nor arrows. Additionally and to your credit, there are none of these centerline/left turn/straight ahead/right turn demarcation lines nor arrows entering into the 61/80 traffic from this street either. --

Joyce Coomer: Drivers not using right lanes to turn

Joyce M. Coomer writes
Intersections, etc., at Walmart, Goodwill, etc.

The only problem I've had with that intersection is a problem I've been having the past several years (and one that's getting worse) all around town -- people not turning from one street into another street using the correct lane of traffic. Apparently basic laziness is the culprit as driving a few more feet before turning the steering wheel a little more would require more effort. I guess people would rather hit someone head-on in the opposite lane of traffic than watch what they're doing and exert a little more muscle power.

Jon Halsey: Comments on mandatory trash pickup

Comments re article 90993 Link WKYT story illustrates need for mandatory trash pickup
Jon Halsey writes:
The majority of the roadside trash that Emily and I pick-up is "Fast Food" wrappers and drink containers, mostly soft drinks. I don't understand how "mandatory trash pick-up would change that.

As a side note, since alcohol sales are now legal we see fewer beer cans and beer cartons. - Jon Halsey
Good point: But it will address the problem of dumping, in town dumpsters and trash cans, along roadsides and around the lakes, as the article and CM comments noted. It's going to take more to do the job including a tax on take away food wrappers and boxes and, particularly, a bottle and can tax, at the point of manufacture, distribution, and final sales area. But politicians aren't likely to have the backbone to face these truths. The sunset on the laws, when, in a couple of generations from now, we have educated all of the next generation on basics of human courtesies.- EW
