By Wes Feese
Media Relations, Adair County Schools

Adair County faculty, staff, and students returned to school Monday, Jan. 2 after two weeks off to celebrate Christmas and the turn of the calendar to 2017. While both students and employees face the challenge of finding their old routines after a lengthy break, the district's youngest students usually face the biggest adjustment.

"The big thing is the change in the schedule - they're not used to waking up early and getting out," Adair County Primary Center Principal Patty Jones says of her young students. "A lot of them have been sleeping late and playing with their toys all day, so it's quite a change when they come back. We've had a couple students fall asleep at their desks this morning and that doesn't usually happen."

Happy New Year fare on the Watson's table

2017-01-02 - Harrodsburg, KY - Photo Mike Watson.
"Our New Year bill-of-fare 2017 included one addition to the usual cabbage -- this year fried with onions -- black-eye-peas, cornbread, and hog jowl; fried Adair County sweet potatoes, some sliced the traditional length-wise and some sliced the modern cross-the-grain way. All were topped as needed with home-made tomato ketchup, ground red pepper, and all the necessary niceties of life. Then a first-pass plate before things got smeared and messy. Happy New Year from the Watsons!"

Police chase ends in arrest

By Trooper Jeff Gregory

Louisville, KY - Kentucky State Police Post 04 Troopers arrested a Louisville man after a pursuit on the Greenbelt Highway in Jefferson County. On Sunday, January 1, 2017 at approximately 9:22pmET, Trooper Ken Borders observed a Dodge pickup truck speeding 72 mph in a 55 mph zone and activated his emergency equipment to stop the vehicle.

At this time, the suspect, James F. McClelland (29) of Louisville, refused to stop and accelerated before turning onto multiple side streets and re-entering the Greenbelt and accelerating again. During the pursuit, the suspect came to a stop at Lower River rd. and Moorman Rd. Trooper Borders heard a shot come from the suspect vehicle and then witnessed the suspect's vehicle quickly accelerate again away from the scene. The suspect then turned onto Lewis Way where he drove into a muddy field and became stuck.

After a brief foot pursuit, Tpr. Borders was able to catch up to the suspect and deploy his Taser striking the suspect. After a brief scuffle, Mr. McClelland was placed under arrest without further incident.
