In Lebanon, KY, and SC Kentucky, Johnny Boone is a folk hero

Next earlier article, this story: Cornbread Mafia leader arrested in Canada

Vicky Pike sends a link to a WAVE Tv story on Johnny Boone, the leader of the so-called Cornbread Mafia which shows another view of the life of Johnny Boone.

Here's the link: Cornbread Mafia: Friends, foes detail pot-king Johnny Boone's journey from fugitive to folk legend

The story suggests sentiment for a pushing for a presidential pardon for Boone, considering changes in society's attitude toward marijuana.

Philip Glenn Cravens, 69, Greenwood, IN (1947-2016)

He had a huge heart and definitive character. He was a strong man who expressed emotion and who loved whole heartedly. He was a true "Cravens" who was not afraid to express his love with hugs and kisses or verbally say "I love you" or "I'm so proud of you" even if in the middle of a crowded room. He was a decorated veteran of the Vietnam War, an Airborne Ranger who earned two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a hero to his family as well as to our nation. He furthered his higher education in 1969 when he attended Lindsey Wilson College in Columbia, Kentucky. . . His death brings sadness to a host of Kentucky kin who remember him as an adorable nephew and as a delightful cousin who came home to his Kentucky roots not nearly often enough. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him here. He was the grandson of the late Fronia & Granvil Cravens of Sano, KY, and the late E.P. & Audrey Waggener of Columbia, KY

CU former employee left gift of artwork behind

By Jesse Harp, student news writer

A while after the death of Jerry Graham, a former employee at Campbellsville University's physical plant, someone told his wife, Myna Graham, that they see his painting every day at lunch. Before this, Myna said that she did not even know a painting existed.

Graham's coworkers told Myna that before her husband died, he would paint every day during his lunch break. Eventually, the painting developed into a 12 ft. by 5 ft. landscape, displaying a vast blue lake, rolling valleys and detailed wildlife.

KY Afield Outdoors: Old Christmas trees great fish habitat

Google Map of Christmas tree drop off sites in Kentucky

By Lee McClellan

Frankfort, KY - Those who enjoy a natural pine, cedar, spruce or fir tree for Christmas often don't know what to do with it after the holidays. Many resort to putting it out on the street or chucking it in the backyard until spring.

You can dispose of your natural Christmas tree and provide habitat for fish by donating it to the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources instead of the tree languishing in the corner of your back yard or being ground into mulch.

"Every year we try to get a large number of Christmas trees, so we can sink them as fish habitat," said Ron Brooks, director of fisheries for Kentucky Fish and Wildlife. "We place them on wooden pallet habitat structures to diversify the habitat or sink just the trees themselves."

Chris Reeder writes:

Ralph Waggener suggests red brick sidewalks as alternative

By Ralph Roy Waggener
Publisher, It's Just for a Smile News

After reading about the sidewalks, and hearing that black top is easier to run on than concrete what about making our side walks out of black top. The can lay it to look like brick or I think this can be done.

The looks of red brick sidewalks would really look good and might even be less expensive, not sure about the cost comparison. This would be something good to look at. Just thinking of ways to improve the looks of our town not to leave out the safety issue. Maybe the sidewalks could be made a little wider? Thanks. - Ralph Roy Waggener
