Chris Dial: Humorous story about Beech Creek Road

Chris Dial writes:
Here is a humorous fact about that creek!!! In the late 90's or early 2000 the Cumberland Co. Fiscal court blacktopped that creek It was a real dry summer and some got the hair brain idea to lay blacktop down a creek bed. First, that creek runs wild when it rains a lot and therefore it will not stay but, most important thing they forgot was you don't put oil products in a creek! So, they spent thousands to lay it and thousands to take it up!!! Lol. Fact - Chris Dial

Peggy Fudge: Loves adventures like the Day Trip story

Comments re photo 66249 Day trip driving down the creek bed

Peggy Fudge writes:
Love the picture, love the story. It would be a great scene to paint. Thanks for sharing it. I love adventures like this. Nowadays, not knowing if somebody has a hidden crop you may be stumbling upon, it can be a bit scary. On the other hand, years before the possibility of pot, was the risk of coming across someone's still. Ah, life in the country-more exciting than those city folk might imagine. - Peggy Fudge
Thanks, Peggy Fudge for the comments. Really appreciate it. But most of all for pointing out that, while are are some new risks around our country roads, there always have been dangers of some kind. - LW

JIM: Railroad talks were dragging on 100 years ago in Adair

By JIM

A number of interesting articles greeted readers of the News a century ago this very early May. The railroad talks dragged on; Charles F. Montgomery, a resident of Casey County whose parents were natives of Adair, announced his candidacy for the US legislature from Kentucky's Eighth District; and word had arrived of the unexpected passing of Rollin J. Keltner. Young Keltner, 21, died at Jefferson Barracks, Missouri, of complications from measles, scarcely a month after joining the Army at Springfield, Illinois.

A rainy days album

Album in progress - Several, however, are already posted.
See Also: The Whitehurst Diaries: Between Cloudbursts - Rainy days album

By Ed Waggener

Life comes and goes and we often forget that all of it - mostly - occasions wonderful experiences.

Many have learned that it isn't just the sunny, 72 degree, cloudless days which leave so many memories.

Rainy & cloud overcast days are wonderful. Especially for those who find harsh sunlight painful to our eyes and for those of us who love the endless photographic opportunities. The lighting makes us happy as fish and farmers when showers and storms are part of life. The photos in this album are just a few we've documented in the past few days.
