Mrs. Geneva Joyce Akin, Metcalfe Co., KY (1945-2016)

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was also a former machine operator for Sumitomo and was a farmer. She was the matriarch of a large, respected family with strong family ties in Metcalfe, Adair, and Green Counties and elsewhere. She was a native of Green County, KY, and a resident of Metcalfe County, KY, at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Lucian Simpson and Alice Gardner Simpson. She leaves nine direct living descendants.

Geneva Joyce Akin, 71, of Edmonton, KY, formerly of Greensburg, KY, departed this life on Friday, April 29, 2016 at her home.

The funeral services for Geneva Joyce Akin will be conducted at 2pmCT, Monday, May 2, 2016 at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home, 206 S Main Street, Greensburg, KY, with burial to follow in the Judd Cemetery. Les Milby will officiate. Visitation is requested 4pm-8pmCT, Sunday at the Cowherd and Parrott Funeral Home and after 7amCT, Monday until time of the funeral service.



Pallbearers: Doug Beard, Jason Beard, Joshua Warf, Caleb Bagby, Riley Pegram, and Chris Whitaker.

Mrs. Geneva Joyce Akin, Metcalfe Co., KY (1945-2016)

Geneva Joyce Akin of Edmonton, KY, formerly of Greensburg, KY, daughter of the late Lucian Simpson and Alice Gardner Simpson, was born on March 11, 1945 in Green County, KY, and departed this life on Friday, April 29, 2016 at her home in Edmonton, Metcalfe County, KY. She was 71 years, one month, and 18 days of age.

She had made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Mt. Gilead Baptist Church. She was also a former machine operator for Sumitomo and was a farmer.

She is survived by:
  • A son and daughter-in-law: Keith and Penny Warf of Breeding, KY

  • Her companion: Geneal Warf of Greensburg, KY

  • Four grandchildren: Erica She Jones and her husband, Matthew of Greensburg, KY; Clinton Keith Warf and his husband, Joshua Morehead of Paducah, KY; Tanesha Smith and her husband, James of Columbia, KY; and Joshua Warf of Columbia

  • Four great-grandchildren: Eric Riley Pegram, Kaylee Shae Judd both of Greensburg, KY; Trenton Smith, and Shawn Smith both of Columbia, KY

  • Two sisters and three brothers: Florence Wyatt, and Shirley Long both of Indiana; Dean Simpson of Greensburg, KY; Wayne Simpson of Indiana; and Junior Simpson of Edmonton, KY

  • And a host of beloved nieces, nephews other relatives and friends
Ms. Akin was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters: James C. Simpson, Bob Simpson, Dilma Harris, and Lola Simpson.

A special thank you from the family to caregivers, Teresa Jeter and Kay White.

The family has asked that expressions of sympathy take the form of donations to the Hosparus of Barren River or Breast Cancer Awareness, which can be made at the funeral home.
