Campbellsville HS fishing team starts season with wins

Campbellsville High School fishing team has started its season and picked up several wins.

The team’s first-ever competition was at Lake Cumberland on Saturday, March 12. Kendon Young, a senior, and sophomore Bryce Richardson finished in the top half of the competitors. There were about 50 boats at the tournament.

Kelly Radford earns HS diploma at AC Adult Learning Center

Kelly Radford is many things: wife, mother, minister for Carrying the Torch Ministries, AND a GED graduate. Kelly attended classes every week, Monday through Thursday, at the Adair County Adult Education Center (ACAEC). Though the road wasn't easy for her, Kelly said that her love for God and the Holy Spirit inspired her to finish her education.

Campbellsville Fire-Rescue extinguishes fire, saves two dogs

Dogs were in respiratory distress

On Tue 29 Mar 2016 at 11:54amET, Campbellsville Fire-Rescue was dispatched to a report of smoke coming from a residence.

Upon arrival firefighters found heavy smoke and fire conditions located in the rear of the house. Firefighters extinguished the fire and preformed a primary search and rescued 2 dogs in respiratory distress.

Firefighters administered oxygen and revived the two dogs. There were no human injuries, the two dogs are expected to recover. There was 17 fireman and 4 apparatus on the scene for around two hours. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

Taylor County Sheriff's Office, Campbellsville Police, Campbellsville/Taylor County EMS, Campbellsville 911 Center, and Kentucky Utilities assisted.

Advice to owners of small dogs

Please, if you have a small dog, it doesn't matter how short their legs are, stay with them when you turn them outside. A dog will travel much farther than you'd think, following a trail, or just being nosy. I have seen three small dogs nearly run over in traffic the past few days.

Cassidy Scantland earns her 6th MSC Golfer of the Week honor

Campbellsville University golfer Cassidy Scantland, a graduate of Green Co. High School, earned the Mid-South Conference Golfer of the Week honor, officials announced on Monday. The honor is the first of the season for Scantland and the sixth of her career.

KYTC Traffic Advisory: KY 1157 In Marion County

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Maintenance Crews will take advantage of favorable weather conditions on Wednesday, March 30th, to replace a culvert pipe on KY 1157 in Marion County. The procedure will require closure of the road between Mile Points 2-3 from approximately 8am until 3pm local time. The schedule will allow morning and afternoon school traffic to avoid detour routes. During the closure, motorists should utilize KY 49 and KY 208 around the closure.

KY Adult Education, KHEAA partner to help college-going adults

Kentucky Adult Education and the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority will launch a partnership on April 1 aimed at helping qualified adults transition or return to college or technical school.

As part of the outreach, Governor Matt Bevin recently proclaimed April as Kentucky Adult College Readiness Month.

KSP arrests Metcalfe Countian for solicitation for murder

Kentucky State Police worked on Tip from Nashville Metro Police that 49-year-old Edmonton man was attempting to hire someone ot murder another individual.
Issuance of warrants and/or arrests are not findings of guilt. An individual charged by police or in a warrant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty at some later criminal proceeding.

Nazario, Mendez get MSC athlete honors

Lindsey Wilson's Victor Nazario is the Mid-South Conference Baseball Player of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The senior outfielder went 7-for-10 at the plate while helping Lindsey Wilson to a 3-1 record during the week. Along with hitting .700, he posted a slugging percentage of 1.200 and drove in three runs.

Hallmon and Mobley get MSC Men's Track & Field athlete honors

Lindsey Wilson's Kevin Hallmon is the Mid-South Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Desmond Mobley is the MSC Field Athlete of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

Dianna June Turner, Taylor Co., KY (1940-2016)

She was an active partner in the Christian Ministry with her husband of 50 years, Rev. Oscar Turner. She was retired from the Indiana Department of Motor Vehicles. She was a Proverbs 31 Woman. She took care of her home, her husband and her children. She sewed, crocheted, cooked wonderful meals, raised a garden, canned vegetables and made homemade preserves & pickles. Dianna was a very charming woman with a loving heart. She leaves 20 direct living descendants. Her final resting place will be in Taylor County, KY.

Funeral services for Dianna June Turner will be conducted at 11amCT/12pmNoonCT, Saturday, April 2, 2016 at the Pleasant Union Baptist Church, 426 Fallen Timber Road, Campbellsville, KY, with the eulogy by Rev. Michael Caldwell.

Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Green, Floyd Briggs,II, Rickey Cecil, Keenan Turner, Ron Turner, Randall Graves and Steven Grady. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Union Church cemetery.

We have received several calls in the past few days concerning people being called upon in the county soliciting donations for the fire department.

The Columbia-Adair County Volunteer Fire Department does not/nor has not ever done any type of solicitation in this form. We would like to make sure that the community is aware that this is not affiliated with the fire department and should you be asked, you may wish to contact local law enforcement.
